Am I setting myself up for sleep problems down the road?

Since day 1 gianna hated going in her crib/bassinet/pnp at night to falll asleep on her own. It's weird cause she goes down wide awake and falls asleep on her own any other time, it's just that 1st put down time of 11-11:30pm.

So we coped by letting her lay in between us, we all lay above the covers, until she fell asleep on her own after I nursed her. We've been doing this for 2 weeks and she's goes down perfectly, and is out until 5-7am.

I want to transition her to her crib soon and out of the bassinet in our room, but I don't want her to get use to co sleeping with mommy and daddy to fall asleep.
She'll go down on her own any other time except that time.

What do i do? Will she grow out of this? Am I starting a habit that will be hard to break?

thank you!

I do put Gianna back in her bassinet though after she falls asleep, she doesn't stay in our bed for longer than an hour or so. Does that make a difference?

I co-slept with Melanie up until 2 weeks ago. It took a few days, but now I can put her down with no problem and she sleeps through the night.

Re: Am I setting myself up for sleep problems down the road?

I was one totally against co-sleeping UNTIL that's the only place DD would go to sleep. My little princess knew right off the bat the difference between a mattress and that flimsy pad in the bassinet.

We ended up co-sleeping (I started napping with her in bed to get some rest and it progressed from there).

I MUST have gotten lucky because one day I tried napping her in the crib....and she did. So I started putting her in there to start the night......and she slept! Half way through the night we'd bring her into bed after her feeding...it was just easier since she fell asleep while eating.

now...she sleeps ALL NIGHT in the crib....just started a week or so ago. I decided to go in when she fussed instead of DH (he's a sucker) and just gave her the paci back, and she was fine!

I'll admit I LOVED co-sleeping. I think DD had a security issue and enjoyed the closeness she felt with both of us in the bed. As she got bigger, she slept longer in the crib...maybe she felt lost in it when she was smaller. I'll also admit that I think I got lucky in her doing this on her own....I never forced the issue...I followed her lead. Some babies NEED the issue forced (with CIO or other sleep training to break the habit).

Good Luck with whatever you decide. There is NOTHING wrong with co-sleeping....if it works for you and you're all getting sleep...that is THE most important thing (that's why we did it....just to get SOME SLEEP!)
