Re: Any Long Islanders work in Jersey City?
I interviewed for a job over there and decided it was too far for me, but I do know someone who did that commute for a long time. She told me it wasn't too bad by train, if your company is near the PATH station in JC. If you take the LIRR, you get off in Penn, just walk through the station to the PATH and then take that to JC.
At my job interview, someone told me from mid Nassau County, it was between an hour and an hour and a half by train - not that much longer than if you had to take the subway from Penn to somewhere in Manhattan.

I commuted from Queens to JC (Exchange Place) for about 5 months. . First, the LIRR is unpredictable, the Path is ok, but you have to take two trains to get to Exchange Place, one from 34th Street and one at Pavonia/Newport. At first the commute really wasn't so bad, but then I got burnt out. I had to find a job closer on Long Island. You really need to be on a tight schedule and have the timing down pat to get to Penn in time. For me the trains didn't run that frequently, so it was kinda a PITA. For me also, some nights I was so beat, I just wanted to get home already and the commute was alittle long and discouraging. Good luck with whatever you decide.
