Anyone have their carseat on the rt rear side instead of the middle??

We have an Acura MDX and the LATCH system has the car seat going on the outside rear seats rather than the middle. I am worried because I thought the middle was the safest...why would Acura put the latches there?

I am wondering if anyone else has their car seat this way.

I have Damien's seat behind the driver's side. It didn't sit right when it was in the middle. I have a Nissan Murano. It has worked fine for us. Most of my friends who have SUV's have their seats on the side not the middle!

When Jake was first born, his car seat was in the middle. Now that he is in the regular car seat (15 months old) he is behind the drivers side seat. We have a Jeep Cherokee.

We have our daughter's car seat on the right side and the new baby will be in a car seat on the left side.

I thought the side was considered safer and where it's ideally supposed to be Chat Icon

I actually called before I gave birth (DH and I were arguing about where the seat went) and they said the middle is the best. But if you have two or it doesn't seat well in the middle what other choice do you haveChat Icon

I had her in the middle in my old car, now I have her behind the passenger side so I can see her since she faces forward now.

Mine is behind the passenger seat because if we put it in the middle or behind the driver seat then we can't fold the larger section of our seat down if we need too.
Not sure what we'll do when we have two. Chat Icon Probably end up with a minivan.

I think they say the middle is the safest because if you are hit on the side, the carseat is farther from the door. But I have found with my niece and nephew that the seats don't sit as securely in the middle.

Aidan is in the middle, I hear thats the safest. The next safest is the drivers side since most side impact accidents (statistically) occur on the passenger side ie, left hand turns.

But then everyone tells you not to take the baby out of the car from the street side (drivers side) the sidewalk side (passenger side) is safest... you can't win.

All I know is I Aidan is getting mighty heavy to be hoisting up into the middle of the backseat Chat Icon

It is interesting to me that even though there are statistics some people just aren't aware of them. I wish I had gone to one of the "carseat classes" at my hospital prior to having Emily because the nurse told me so many things I didn't know, like about having to keep the handle way down, all the way down, and about not putting toys on the handle because they can hurt the baby during an impact.

I heard that besides the middle that the next safest place is behind the passanger seat because if there were a head on crash that the force of the 150lb driver would go back onto the car seat... there is a lesser chance of always having a passanger. Who knows.

We have a Toyota Camry. Our infant is behind the passenger seat and our toddler is behind the driver. When we only had 1 the seat never sat right in the middle, so he was behind the passenger side. (the "safer " side).

We always have our seat installation inspected just to be sure what we did was correct.

As an infant in the infant seat, he was in the middle. When he moved to his Marathon convertible car seat, we had him on the passenger side. Just recently when we got the new truck, we put him behind hte driver, so that when the infant arrives, she will go on the side behind the passenger. The way the back seat is, I am not sure if there is room to put the infant seat in the middle righ next to the Marathon. We'll give it a shot, but I doubt it.

I have a Hummer and Roman sits behind the passenger seat. I was told by the fire department that it was okay.

Re: Anyone have their carseat on the rt rear side instead of the middle??

Ugh, this is so confusing! I had Andrew's infant seat rear facing behind the driver's seat. When we switched to the convertible seat, he was still that way in one car and in the middle for the older car we have b/c there is no latch system.

This weekend we switched the car seat to forward facing and behind the passenger side b/c we were told that it's safer to take him in/out from that side.

Sounds like that could be wrong I guess, but it's what we'll stick to for now...

Molly has always been on the passenger side, where the latch system is. We have side impact bags so I feel it is safe there.
