Do I say something to the neighbor and if I do, can I do it without coming across being petty?

Do I say something to the neighbor and if I do, can I do it without coming across being petty?

I live on a corner piece of property and share a common property line with the neighbor behind my house. He has a tendency of putting his garbage cans, garbage, bags of leaves, etc right at the property line and then if he needs more room, puts all is garbage right in front of my side lawn. It has annoyed me since the beginning but DH didn't really think it was necessary to say anything.

Well, he has had these fence posts sitting right in front of my lawn for the past 2 weeks. The town wouldn't take them because they have to be cut into pieces. So, this past weekend, he cut them down and now I have 4 piles of cut up fence posts lining the road on my side lawn. The town won't pick them up the way he has them out and I"m sick of looking at his garbage. If he doesn't want it piled in front of his house, why is it okay to pile it in front on my side lawn...granted, it isn't the front of my house but I can see it from the bedroom and the backyard. Plus, when he leaves his other garbage there, sometimes the bags break open and I have his garbage (leaves, packing stuff, ect) all over my side lawn and we have to clean it up.

Is it wrong to say something or should I wait a little while longer to see if the fence gets picked up and let the other garbage go?

Can you place everything back on his side?? Maybe if he sees this done enough times, he'll get the hint?

Have you thought of installing a fence to separate the 2 areas?

I would rather say something something to him then just put the wood in front of his house. There is a fence almost to the street that seperates the property.

He's just a pain!

SOmething like that would make me batty!!

Is the propery line clear? Is it possible he thinks that it is on his property?

How friendly are you with them? Can you ask them when (in a friendly way) they are getting their garbage off your property?

If you aren't so friendly, you could just tell them what sanitation is telling you -- that it needs to be tied & bundled properly to be picked up. Stress that they are telling you since it is on your property.

The property line is quite clean and it's obvious that his has it piled up in front of my house by a good 15 feet!

I guess I will just ask him to pile his garbage in front of his house instead of mine because I don't like looking at it either.

By that much! Chat Icon I would definitely go over to him and ask him to move it and to stop doing that. I thought you were talking one side of the live vs the other.

That's such a jerky thing to do to your neighbor! Chat Icon

I was leaning toward maybe not saying anything until I read this - 15 feet is a LOT to be pushing crap in front of someone else's house. I would say just what you wrote above. If being nice doesn't get you anywhere, you might be able to call whoever does code enforcement for you town or city and they might be able to do something for you.

If it was just the at the property line or a bit over, I wouldn't really care but he does this with everything. He lines the bags of leaves in front of my house, any big pieces of garbage like carpet are lined up in front of the house. It's on the street and not on my property so I'm not sure how much I can really say. It's just so inconsiderate!

I would kick his azz!!

OK maybe I would try talking to him first.

I have a neighbor who puts his garbage out like 2 days in advance (next to us, but not quite on my property). I got a copy of the ToH sanitation rules - which include no garbage to be put out more than 12 hours in advance - and put them in his doohandle. If talking to him doesn't work, maybe you can get something from the town re: sanitation rules and keeping crap on his own property...

I asked someone that works in sanitation and they said this guy is basically dumping illegally. Since it's being dumped on your property and it's not out properly, you could potentially get a summons or fine. He said could either tell this to your neighbor or tell sanitation that he's doing it.

Why should you look at his garbage. I agree, maybe mention that sanitation said something to you about it and thought it was you and then say, would you mind just using your other piece of lawn.
