Gift to Bring to Family - Sitting Shiva

Hi All,

I'm going to sit shiva tonight or tomorrow night. What should I bring for the family? I normally bring food items, but it's still Passover, right? What should I bring?

TIA,
Susan Chat Icon

Passover ends at sundown tonight, so you can bring cookies, cake, fruit, a thing of nuts and dried fruit, etc.

I usually go to a kosher bakery and ask the people there. maybe they can suggest something other than cookies/baked goods

Where is a good Kosher bakery in the Bethpage/Plainview/Woodbury area?

All Kosher bakeries will be closed until tomorrow (most will not reopen tonight since passover ends at sundown tonight).
Does the family keep Kosher? If not, just a nut and dry fruit platter will be appreciated. That keeps a lot longer than anything fresh.

I've also seen people send a cold cut tray (kosher), or a fruit or veg tray, or even a tray of eggplant rollatini or something.

There will be so many people over so many days than anythign you bring will most likely get eaten.

Oh, there are a lot in Plainview. I know The Bakery in the Shoprite shopping center on S. Oyster Bay Rd. is closed for Passover. You can also try Bagel Boss on the same Road, other side of the street by TJ Maxx.

Pearl's Bakery in the Fairway Shopping center on manetto hill Road in Plainview. I don't lnow if it will be open since it is a kosher Bakery and today is the last day of Passover....

they have great stuff---

Personally, I would just go to the Bakery and get a pound of Rugalah. There's is the best... It is in the Plainview center on S. Oyster Bay Rd.

That is what i usually bring to Shivers....

Yum -- Rugalah! Love it! I was thinking Bagel Boss too. I wound up taking the train from Bayside today and there's a bakery right next to the station so I'll probably just pick something up on my way. Thank you ladies so much. Chat Icon

Are they kosher Sue? If so, make sure you get something that's kosher. You might want to get kosher food even if they aren't, so guests who are kosher can eat it too... Gadi and I usually go to a local kosher deli or bakery and buy a platter. Usually bagels, cream cheese, whitefish and lox and some cookies. Re: Gift to Bring to Family - Sitting Shiva

They're not kosher, but were keeping kosher for Passover. Now that I'm not going til today and Passover's over, I don't really have to worry much about that. I don't believe most of their family keeps Kosher on a regular basis either, so I'll probably stick to just regular bakery cookies. Bagels at 6pm seems weird to me. If I was going tomorrow am, I would do that. Thanks though! Chat Icon
