I haven't done it yet, but I've looked into doing it.
You need to set up a sellers account - you need to give CC info and checking account info. They charge you a fee to list your item, and they take another fee based on the selling price of the item.
For the tiny item I was planning on selling, the fees made it not worth the time or effort.

Re: how do you sell on ebay? are there any down sides?
I had to give eBay & paypal my cc number and a checking account number. I figured that there is some protection from the cc company if my card number is stolen. I opened a separate checking account with Washington Mutual (free checking) to use only for eBay/paypal and I put a small amount of money in it. Really, anytime that you use your cc the people who handle the transaction can steal your info so I figured that either way I am taking a chance. With the checking account number, I don't know how someone would be able to get into it to steal money but since WM has free checking, I figured why find out. I hope this helps.

As Checka said...you have to give ebay and paypal your cc # and a checking account #. The money in my paypal account gets held there until I transfer it to my checking. I use the paypal account to pay my ebay fees. So far I have had no problems. The sites seem to be very secure. A friend of mine had her ebay account tapped into and someone listed something under her name. She contacted ebay and they cancelled the listing and told her they are pressing charges against the guy. I think it's like any other website...you take your chances. BTW, the biggest problem is people who win bids and never pay you, so then you have to relist the item..etc. etc.

the only bad thing is those spam e-mails that look EXACTLY like they are coming from Ebay, but then they ask to update your account info.....SCAM. Other than that, I had a few non-paying bidders and we sold a car but put it up as a buy it now which you get scammed on also.
