How's ADT? We've been offered a free alarm system
We are planning to put in an alarm system anyways.. but wanted to know everyone's opinion on ADT.

We haven't had any problems with it- I actually couldn't live without it. We accidentally set it off (don't recommend that- the cops hate us now) but on both occasions the cops were here withing minutes. The only thing was that it took almost a half hour for them to call us to make sure everything was okay, but other than that we have been happy with it.

We have it and haven't had any problems with it. The alarm is LOUD though! (I guess that's the point  ) I've set it off a few times when I woke up early on the weekends to let the dog out, but forgot to shut the alarm off first. Scared the bejesus out of me!!!!

Just becareful of who sent you the letter- make sure it is from a reputable company. When we first moved in, someone put a flyer into our mailbox for all this free stuff from ADT. When I called the number, some lady answered the phone- it sounded like she was at a personal residence- not a business. Anyway, after talking with her, I decided not to go with them because she sounded so shady (I didn't want someone going through my home I didn't trust). I went online and found someone more reputable.

Get a dog...much cheaper yes the alarm is free but they make that back ten fold with the monthly monitoring, yes you do get a discount off of your home insurance...I heard that when someone burglarizes a home they trip the alarm then listen to a scanner that way they know when the police are coming...and may I add the alarm calls are a low priority on the call log for police so if there is a more serious call it can be awhile for police to respond...and in some township the police charge you to respond....
