Re: jewish preggos

I'm Jewish...and my DH (who is also Jewish) insisted I have a shower. My mom said it was fine...I don't know anything about cemetaries...but I would go to the unvailing if you want to be there.

We are not very religious though.

Re: jewish preggos

my jewish friend is going to have the shower after the baby is born since she cant bring any baby gifts into the house and everything. She also wanted a shower and her DH's father's side would not approve so that was the agreement the family came too.

She's excited to go to my baby shower b.c it will be the first one she's been to and then she has hers after the baby.

But she did register so when people buy her gifts they have a place to go to and then it will be finished when she has the shower.

I wouldnt find it too much- I mean most people expect a baby shower anyway.

what if you did the shower, but all gifts when to a nonrealtives house or something? Or can you not do anything that involves the baby at all?

What about having a shower but keeping all the gifts at your parents or in-laws until after the baby is born?

I'm not Jewish but I say if you want a shower go for it! I know you're not suppose to bring stuff home for the baby until after the baby is born, so just leave everything at someone else's house! Chat Icon

Re: jewish preggos

I'm Jewish by DH is Catholic. My parents are fine with MIL organizing the shower. Not sure where I want to put the baby presents/gifts- at first I was as going to keep them at my IL's but now I'm thinking to heck with that- I want to put the nursery together!

I think you should do whatever you feel comfortable with- I never heard the thing about cemetaries- if you want to go to your dad's unveling then you should go- who cares what the rabbi thinks? Talk to your family about it and get their thoughts.

I think those are all good ideas BUT I dont think its about me and not wanting them in my house its about the peoples reaction to the party that would be present at the party. I just wonder if people would be disgusted by it since its not supposed to be done. I am not fond of these rituals. Could you imagine not having a shower, celebrating your babies life and being prepared for when the baby comes. These are all reasons I think everyone should have one.

in re: to the cemetary. I know for a fact my dad would never want me there 8 months preggo. My family is pretty much with the no's a s well. In re: to the rabbi...he has to perform the service so I am just wondering if he will do it if I am there. I am hoping to find a reform rabbi and talk to him.

Re: jewish preggos

I don't have any kids yet, but I will probably have a shower when I get pregnant one day. I'm Jewish and DH isn't. My mom recently went to a shower where both parents-to-be were Jewish. She really wanted a shower so she had one. I don't think anyone had an issue with it. I think her mom kept all of the shower gifts at her house. My mom already told me she has no problem with me having a shower one day, but she will keep all of the gifts at her house. If someone keeps all of the gifts until the baby arrives, I don't see a problem with it. I heard it's becoming more common for Jewish moms to have baby showers.

DH's grandmother is still around...and she can't wait for the shower. So, it really depends on your family...mine is very laid back.

Re: jewish preggos

I am currently TTC and Jewish. You have to do what is comfortable for you in regard to the cemetary. If it was me I would go, I am not too religious. In regard to the shower, I am not big on them, but if you really want one, go for it. HTH

Mu cousin did this. She kept some stuff at her mom's house...and some in her garage...saying that it wasn't technically in the house.

I'm too much of a planner....there will be things in my house Chat Icon

i am jewish, and i am having a shower. dh's family is very observant. they have the choice of coming or not. as far as bringing in things to the house-we are not having the furniture delivered until after the baby is born. my mom and mil are going to wash everything at their house and keep it there organize and then they plan on organizing everythng for me once we get home. i think that i will have a few things ready, though, like diapers and such.

As far as the unveiling - in the Jewish religion - there are certain family members, who while you are pregnant, if they pass away you are allowed to go to the funeral, and parents are one of them. I would call the Rabbi and see what he suggests.

My best friend just had baby a few months ago - she is jewish and she had a shower. It was low key - about 20 people at her mom's house. From what I can tell, more and more jewish girls are having showers. I plan on it when I am pregnant!
