I get the bordatella b/c I have 5 dogs & we go to dog parks & to PetSmart & other places that have alot of pets. I am very VERY torn right now about the Lepto shot, as wel live on a park where cases of Lepto have already been reported this year, and my dogs are at higher risk than most. Same with the Lymes, for the same reason. I just hate the danger of the lepto shot, and how it does not cover all strains Chat Icon

I agree I also feel like the vaccaines can stay in there system for over a year+ so I might get titer done to see if he is still ok.Chat Icon

Bordatella is not necessary unless you are planning to board your dog, at least that is what my vet does with Murphy. And I think my vet also said that lepto shots are important on LI because there are alot of cases because of all the racoons and squirrels.

We did Lyme and Lepto. We plan on taking her to Fire Island where there are a lot of ticks and Lyme disease. If we didn't take her there I wouldn't bother. We gave her the Lepto, I've heard of people who live on LI who have gotten it and is very scary.

Now, I must tell you she did have an allergic reaction to both of them. Nothing too bad, the Lyme was a little more severe, she was sick to her stomach and puffy so the vet gave her a shot and she was fine. The Lepto she got a little bit puffy so the vet said to give her Benydryl and she was fine. I've heard that a lot of other JRT's have allergies. The Vet said she may outgrow it. I would give her the shots again.

ETA: Last year my parents dog Annie got a hold of a bunch of baby squirrels. When I took the babies to the vet they were very concerned for Annie's saftey as far as her getting Lepto from them.

I say definitely get the lyme because if a tick does bite him, how would you feel wondering if he'll get the disease? At least with the shot you drive down that chance drastically.
Bruno had a tick a while ago from walking around a small lake and although I was freaking out just cause there was a tick, my mind was put a little at ease because he had the shot.
I think small dogs need a little extra help being protected against the elements.
