Thanksgiving Day Recipes

Since Thanksgiving is a month away. Can some of you share your favorite Thanksgiving recipe (side dish or dessert).

sweet potatoes w/marshmallows YUM!

We also have a tradition in my family...you mix some G Washington broth powder (chicken bouillon) with cream cheese and put it on top of celery sticks, then sprinkle a little paprika.. yummmmmyChat Icon

Every holiday I make flan. Mainly since my inlaws were so concerned that DH marrying out of his race would result in not being taken care of properlyChat Icon


Simple Flan, got recipe from DH's grandmother

8 eggs
1 can of sweet condensed milk
1/2 cup of sugar
2 tsp of vanilla

1. Carmelize sugar. Put sugar in a pot, put on medium low heat. stir, and watch closely. once all sugar has turned to liquid, take off stove.

2. In your flan pan, immediately pour hot liquid sugar in it. make sure it covers entire bottom equally.

3. Let it sit and harden.

4. In seperate bowl, mix eggs, vanilla, and milk.

5. Pour into flan pan over the hardened sugar.

6. I usually do 400 degrees, I found it varies in ovens..at my BIL's house, I baked it at 425.
I take a big roasting pan, lay a dish towel down, fill it up with about an half inch full of water. Place flan pan in.

7. Bake...usually takes a little over an hour.

8. take out, cool...put plate on top, and flip it so now the top was the bottom, and sugar is on top.

9. put in fridge. DH never leaves it in fridge, he eats the whole thing in 1 sitting. but I am sure it tastes great after chilled.

recipes vary. I also sometimes use almond instead of vanilla. Once I skipped vanilla and used Grand Marnier, and added a little cocoa powder to it. It was great.

Janice, what size and shape "flan pan" do you use? I am assuming round....

sorry...I use a round one, it just happens to have sides on it that flare out slightly instead of straight up. Like it gets wider the futher you go up. I like to use that one. Since when you flip it, the wider side is at the bottom. But I am sure any round pan will do.

Paradise Pumpkin Pie

ingredients: 1 9" in pie crust
1 8oz package philadelphia cream cheese (softened) NEVER use light it will not turn out!!!

1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
***********
1 1/4 cups canned pumpkin
1 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs beaten
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

on ligtly floured surface roll pie crust to 12 inches , place in 9" pie plate. turn edge under and press with fork.
Combine cream cheese sugar and vanilla mixing with mixer until well blended. Blend in egg > spread onto bottom of pie crust.
Combine remaining ingredients mix well . Carefully pour over cream cheese mixture. Bake at 350 degrees , 1 hour and 5 minutes. cool
the top can be brushed with maple syrup and topped with pecans ( i always skip this)
