to the clomid. I was on met for quite a while and took myself off of it. I never felt that it quite worked for me. But, she wants to put me on it again and we will see what happens!

She also wasn't sure why they classified me as PCOS b/c I have normal testosterone and had normal periods up until I was 20. However, the weight gain hasn't helped!

We will see!!!!!!!

I started to have longer periods after I started college and that is when the weight gain started. Back then it was referred to as Stein-Leventhol Syndrome or Cushings Disease...I didn't test completely positive for these either. Then along came PCOS and doctors "dumped" patients into this category. From my last labs (almost a year ago) my levels were good nothing was high at all. However, the weight gain, body hair, and missed mensees all fit PCOS.

I was on Metformin for 4 years and wanted to take a break and detox my system. I am lucky and don't really suffer side-effects from medication, so the dr. upped the RX to 2,000 mg......

I am working with a RE at Beth Israel who has a pretty good track record. My insurance doesn't cover NYU or Cornell. So, for right now this is what I have to work with.

Why would she put you on Met if she doesn't think that you have PCOS? Does she think you have insulin resistance?

Have you considered going to an RE at North Shore, or any of the other clinics here in NY?

Which RE's did you go to?

PCOS is a very tricky thing, you should ask old RE exactly why she diagnosed you as that

My new RE states Im borderline. I have semi-high testosterone( borderline high) and I have added weight and some hair growth and I get a lot of "mini" follies each month , often which appear to be cystic.

i asked all this because ALL of my other tests are fine. Fasting insulin/glucose etc...They are even on the low side...yet I was still given a borderline diagnosis....

its a tricky thing.

I find with RE's you have to ask LOTS of questions. If they get annoyed, then move on. A good dr should be able to make you 100% understand why tehy are doing what they are doing.....especially in terms of medicines you may be given , because not neccesarily met..but other med's havent been studied for too long and there are risks...you need to make sure the decision to take something is yours!!

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Best of luck to you! PCOS women tend to react very well to Clomid and have lots of eggs.

I have PCOS (although the bloodwork doesn't prove this) and I'm on my second month of metaformin. Let me know if you have any questions, i'll be more than happy to help you.

PCOS seems to be a diagnosis/category that they put a lot of women into. It's interesting because the term means polycystic ovaries...yet...so many women that they say have pcos, don't have cystic ovaries....

Insulin levels are very important. What's considered normal, or in range, can actually be considered resistant when ttc. For instance, I believe over 16 is a concern generally but, when TTC, anything over 10, is considered high. My level is a 13, and Dr. Scher put me right on metformin. I ovulate every cycle but, the higher insulin level can affect egg quality.

I would ask your endo, what your insulin level is .....

Out of curiousity, I am wondering why your doctor is keeping you on clomid and not moving you to injectible/iuis ? Does Beth Israel monitor your E2 levels before O ? E2 levels reveal a lot. My former clinic was monitoring my E2 levels when I was on femara, and what I later found out, was although I had multiple mature follies, the E2 wasn't high enough. (according to Dr. Spandorfer from Cornell). That facility never would call with the results ....and it wasn't until I received my records did I find this out.

My insulun levels at last check were "good" What that number is, I honestly don't know. I am having a bunch of blood tests this Saturday. The whole gamet of every endo test possible.

E2 levels are good. Yes, I am monitored all the way through ovulation. Dr. Chang doesn't want to move on to injectibles because he speculates that too many rounds of injectibles before IVF can cause harm to the body. He would rather hold out until we move on to IVF. I wasn't sure how I felt about this until I met up with a woman who is a complete mess after 7 IVF tries and 10 IUIs all injectible. I don't want to be this person. I know this is an extreme, but since I can't move on to IVF until the summer, then I don't mind being on the clomid and adding metformin to the mix. I am lucky to not have horrible side effects from these meds thus far.

I must admit that I am also terrified of extreme cases of multples. I think I can handle triplets but after that, I just don't know.
