Would this bother you?

One of my co-Workers just brought in her 11 month old grandson. He is adorable!!!!

The thing that bothered me though was that they put girl sneakers on him...they were white with little pink and purple flowers.

I think it bothered me because I would never put anything on my son that is clearly made for a girl.

What do you think? Does it matter?

Re: Would this bother you?

maybe it just bothers me becasue on one ocassion a woman told me that even though my son is dressed in all blue she thought he was a girl until she heard me say his name....when I asked why she thought that..she said because he has long eye lashes.

so sonce that day I refuse to even put anything yellow on him....I got upset that someone thought my baby boy was a girl.

I know its crazy!!!!!

I wouldn't do it, but hey...whatever floats your boat.

People are strange. I dress Cassidy in all pink and someone STILL comes up and says "Oh, he's SO adorable!"Chat Icon

I finally went out and bought a big pink bib that says "I Am Not A Boy"Chat Icon

Re: Would this bother you?

I would never do that.
God knows what kinda issues it could bring up in the future.
For ex. when my son was a few months old..I painted his toenails..just a goofy thing, hot summer day by the pool- I was doing mine,so I just did it 'cause he was starring at me doing it. My family FLIPPED-OUT on me! Needless to say it came off pronto. Well, not that my son remembers but my dear sister told him, he reminds me every so often(he is now 8) how I "tortured" him as a baby. Chat Icon
Far from torture, but it oviously bothers him.

i kinda understand what your saying but yet not

I seriously do not thing the color or design of an 11 month old shoes is going to have a lasting affect on the child.

And if someone is going to bring up something like that to a child....well then THAT is the issue...NOT the painting of toe nails

But your point was that something like that would have some impact on him later in life....no?

I just feel that color of shoes and design really have no impact like that...

Would i do it....HELL NO.

Uhm hi guys Chat Icon I was just watching a show on this the other day and expert said that this would have no lasting affevt on a child. Give him oink shoes or her G.I. Joe shoes and him barbies & her G.I. Joe tpys and reality is it does nothing. IMO I don't think it matter. Chat Icon The end Chat Icon

If it bothers him - it's no longer a joke, it's mean.

To get back on topic - no, it wouldn't bother me.

I wouldn't have my son dressed in girl clothes, but will dress Maddie in hand-me down carpenter pants jeans. She also goes to sleep in his old pjs too. But outside the house - gender specific clothes only.

Re: Would this bother you?

I am not a parent yet, but I donn't want my little girl to be pushed into only "girly" things. I want her to find her own way and her own interests regardless of her sex.

I plan to dress her in pink, blues, yellows, greens, etc... If she wants to play with GI Joe- power to her. Remember sports used to be something girls did not do, only boys. I want to encourage my daughter to follow all her interests.

I am not doing the nursery in too much pink and a friend has already knitted her a baby blanket in blue.

Seeing a little boy in "feminine" sneakers would definitely not bother me.

I just looked in your profile and if that's your baby pictured, well, I don't think he looks like a girl! I love long eyelashes on children. That's mostly how they come in the beginning Chat Icon

I used to always wear pink and purple as a little girl because I loved those colors, and I loved my Yankee hat. My hair was really short and sparse (and I was only about 2 or 3) anyway. One day a man started yelling at my mom- "How dare you put a little boy in pink and purple!" Chat Icon

ETA: Maybe since the flowers were little they didn't notice them? I think if I was a busy mom I may not notice all the little details of a kids' shoes.

Re: Would this bother you?

think that I am just sensitive to this issue...because like I said before for some reason it really bothered me that someone thought my little boy was a girl.
I guess I would think completly different if no one ever mistook James for a girl.

My DH and I are not worried about how a piece of clothing or a toy will shape James' future...We love him no matter what. He can play with what ever he wants...if its dishes then we'll buy him a play kitchen....like I said I was a little sensitive to his gender being mistaken....and I think that is why it struck me odd to see this handsome little boy in girl's sneakers.

Re: Would this bother you?

My DH like to say that "
"They aren't boys are girls, they are just babies"
and "all babies are kinda girly anyway"

He told me this when I made a multicolored blanket for a firiend that hand more pink in it than I intended. It turned out she had a girl anyway. . .but he didn't think it would matter.

I think it would be weird to buy girl sneakers for a boy on purpose, but if they were a gift or hand me downs, why not use them?

And as my MIL likes to say, "In Belgium, blue is for girls & pink is for boys"

I have no idea if this is true.
