My question is I am working full time ( we are not having a baby for a while ) But still was courios, once we do have the baby I know I am not going back to work DO I tell my job that- what happens with my Health ins and the baby....so I have to right way find another ins policy for them?? If I ask about it at the office people will be wondering why.

You will need to go over to your husband's plan. If you tell your employeer that you are not going back to work they are not required to pay you any disability at all. Most women don't say anything until their leave is up. At that point you would have your husband move the family to his plan. Private insurance is very expensive so if you will need that you should start looking at it soon so you can figure out the costs. Never ask ANYONE at the office as they will know you are quiting and you could lose your job long before that.

It probably depends on your company, but I can tell you what happened with me. Even though I decided not to go back to work my insurance covered me up until the time my leave ends, which is June 30th and then since I work in a school, my insurance also covers me throughout the summer (but only because my leave took me all the way to the end of my contract period). I then have the right to continue my insurance through Cobra. I didn't tell my job I wasn't coming back until my DS was almost 3 months old. I had originally requested maternity and FMLA. If I had just resigned from the very beginning I don't know if I would have been able to continue my benefits. Is there anyone at your job who has recently had a baby that you could find out from? You should at least be entitled to continue your insurance coverage through Cobra.

See now that is the thing He doesnt have ins so I can not go over to his ins w/ the baby
so If I dont say anthing we will be coverd untill my maturnity leave is over.....then they will cut us off.

What you do is go on lmaternity eave without telling them that you don't plan on coming back to work. Right before your leave or FMLA is up, you then let them know of your plans. Then you will receive your COBRA papers and you will be required to accept the COBRA and you can continue with your ins. through COBRA for around 12-18 months. just remember that when you switch over to COBRA, you no longer pay a portion of the insurance premium, but rather what your company was paying.

No, you aren't required but you can if you want to... you only have 60 days to accept the COBRA.

thanks girls



now what if i do come back but only 3days ( not meeting my 30hrs for health care) just for like 4 weeks then leave??? do you think i can pull that off??

I dont know BUT it has to be atleat 30hrs to keep coverage

I would begin getting quotes for healthcare coverage for a family.
Cobra will be charged to you at the FULL price that your company pays- not just your portion. You are NOT required to take it but a lot of people do because they can't risk not having insurance.
I know some women who work full or part-time just to get health benefits for the family.
You may want to find a job that offers P/T employees benefits before getting pregnant.
