Can we talk nipples?? For bottles that is....
We bought 3 kinds of bottles and nipples for DS. We have the Avent, Ventair Wide with natural nipple and the regular Ventair with stage 1 nipple. With the Avent and Ventair wide, the nipples are similar and supposed to closely resemble the breast. DS who is 3 weeks old now is constantly dribbling farmula out of the sides of his mouth when using these two nipples. When we use the Ventair with stage 1 nipple, he makes no mess but it appears that he's working too hard to get the formula. Did anyone else have the same problem? Is it normal for newborns to be messy eaters or is the nipple not right for him?
Thanks!

it's not the nipper per se but the flow that is going through the nipple. Compare the holes....the Ventaire wide and Avent might have a bigger hole than the one that he is actually working to get. He'll get used to the flow eventually....
Alyson dribbled for a bit when we switched from Stage 1 to Stage 2 ov the Dr browns nipples.

Re: Can we talk nipples?? For bottles that is....
Ok, I had a very similar situation. We started Ava on the Avent and the flow of the stage ones was so fast that she would choke, so we moved to the Ventaire Wides, and she was ok. Be careful, though, becuase if you tighten the Ventaire Wides too much, the liquid just pours out of them. It's very weird and the only thing I don't like about those. The regular Ventaires, well, their stage one nipples are odd. They're more like a preemie nipple. They have an X type opening in them that makes it harder to them to suck on. They have to work harder for it. That's good and bad in some respects. Good because they burn calories sucking and because they don't choke as easily, bad because they work so hard sometimes that they will fall asleep before they are done eating. I would try the stage twos for the regular Ventaires. They have a Y shaped opening in the nipple and it's a little easier for them to suck out of without it pouring out. HTH!
