Is pregnancy an excuse to eat whatever one wants?

Ok..

I know the answer is "no" here. But seriously...before my wedding in september, i was working out, feeling great and eating relatively healthy (weekly splurges for something bad for me)...however...now at 13 weeks, i see a commercial for taco bell..BAM gotta have taco bell.

I read a post on liweddings about ice cream sundaes....guess who had to have one?

And the clincher? I work in a cafe/catering place in old town virginia...delicious food, all i could want.

How do i avoid gaining 100 pounds??? And i am not a vain person, i expect my body to change and know i can take off the weight...but i feel so unhealthy already and gained 10 in my first trimester!!!

What about everyone else??

In the very beginning there are certain things I couldn't eat or even smell, I stuck to Grilled cheese and French Fries and now I am further along and find myself still eating that - 3 x a week! Talk about weight gain, I KNOW I will regret it later PLUS I don't think it is too healthy.

Well if you eat junk moderately you will be fine.. I ate mCdonalds breakfast almost every monring but then I would not eat crazy stuff the rest of the day .. it worked..
I had my taco bell, white castle and CAKES and lots of icecream but I usually spread it out through the week..
It worked for me since I only gained a total of 25 pds..

Re: Is pregnancy an excuse to eat whatever one wants?

In my first trimester I let myself eat whenever and whatever i wanted in between feeling really sick. I gained about 10 lbs too, cause the only thing I could eat was grilled cheese, cheese, fried chic sandwiches, cereal, and french fries.

I get the cravings all the time like you do. I give myself a day or so for things like taco bell, and if I still want it I get it. Just dont get a 10 pack of tacos :)

I refuse to deprive myself, pg or not, just everything in moderation. What is surprising, I eat pretty good, I only give in maybe once or twice a week.

DOn't worry about the weight gain, I totally think it's genetic anyways. Except for the 1st trimester, I eat pretty well and still gained about 30lbs at 31 weeks pg.

i've been eating pretty healthy for the most part but have indulged in cravings here and there. early on my appetite was all over the place and sometimes i had to force things down. i haven't been exercising as much which is not good.

looks like i am going to have to pay even closer attention as my glucose test came back high at 26 weeks, and i'm heading out for a walk right now Chat Icon ...

I've been really indulgent with myself when it comes to cravings. If I want pizza, I have it. Same with ice cream, cookies, you name it. I just try not to have huge portions of those things-- just enough to satisfy the urge. Also I try to balance things out, so if I have McD's or pizza for lunch I try to have a nutritious dinner-- lean protein, veggies etc.

I basically ate whatever I wanted to during my PG. I did it somewhat within moderation but in reality I let myself have what I wanted. Especially towards the end when I felt like crapola because I was huge I just didn't care anymore. I wish now that I watched myself more because I have about 15-20 lbs to lose to get myself back to where I was before.

It was a really viscious cycle for me because my morning sickness was awful..but the ONLY thing that made me feel better was eating carbs...french toast, pancakes etc...i was so used to having grilled chicken, veggiest before pg...

But i am feeling over the morning sickness now...just wish i wanted really healthy stuff. The only healthy foods i want are fruit for the most part...

I really hope so because I have certainly been doing that!
My mom warned me though. She gained 65 pounds with my sister (we are built the same) and it took her a long tome to get it off. Of course she learned her lesson and only gained 15 with me Chat Icon

I do the same exact thing. Everything in moderation and small portion sizes. Chat Icon

I've pretty much allowed myself to eat whatever I want. I've done okay with my weight, but if I was really gaining too much I probably would have tried to limit myself. I've been enjoying so many things! It's going to be really hard to go back to eating a healthier diet!
