Re: life after baby
Let me just start by saying I love my son more than life itself. With that being said my life has changed so much. There is no sleeping in on the weekends, no going out for dinner and a movie, no spur of the moment trips. I used to go shopping all the time for clothes and shoes, still do, but for him. When I leave my son with his grandmother I am always thinking if he is ok, what he is doing etc.
My life is consumed with his well being. I cant do the little things I used to do, even cleaning my house I have to do in spurts, vaccum here, dusting there. I have to have my mom take him every other Saturday so that I can give my house a super cleaning. Cant just jump in the car and go to the mall anymore...gotta make sure he's eaten and his diaper bag is packed with diapers, wipes, bibs, change of clothes, toys you name it. Even taking a shower, have to wait until he is napping.
There is no "me" time anymore. Between taking care of my baby and doing all my regular stuff (cooking, cleaning, laundry) I have no time to just sit and do nothing.
But I wouldnt change it for the world

Re: life after baby
When people say you have no time for yourself- I never got it until I was a mom. Everything in the day is about tending to the baby. They say a baby sleeps a lot, but what they dont say is that it is broken up in little spurts throughout the day. So, as an example, The baby will fall asleep, you breathe a sigh of relief, start a project you need to do, she wakes up. You will sing to her, entertain her, play with her, change her diaper, feed her, and wait for her to back to sleep. A simple project like folding laundry can take the whole day! Going to the dry cleaners can literally take an hour with the planning. All this leaves little time for your interests.
I have help though.... I have someone who comes in once a week to clean and someone who assists me in taking care of the baby (My dh works crazy hours). Also, my mil comes once or twice a week to watch her while I go to gym. The parents alternate babysitting on Saturday nights. So I still get plenty of time to myself.

Reading stuff like this used to scare the ever living crap outta me when I was PG. Nothing wrong with it...in fact it's all very very true... but I used to take it in so negatively. It's so hard to explain how all this changes, yet it really is not as awful as it sounds.
In my case, I prepared for and expected the absolute WORST... but I was pleasantly surprised and it wasn't as bad as that stuff sounded to me.
So, yes my life has changed... but the good stuff FAR outweighs the bad. I have a wonderful DH who really helps out ALOT with the baby so I feel I do get enough "me" time (never needed that much anyway), and I CAN just run out of the house to the store real quick.
Yes, vacations will forever be a problem now and we didn't get to travel as much as we would have liked before becoming PG. Daycare expenses and being a working mommy s*ck. But I would have to say that having a baby changed my life the most in this way:
You suddenly understand how little the BS things really matter in life. I can handle the stresses of my job better, the stupid things that happen to me, the messy house, etc... all that stuff I can take in stride as long as I know that my baby is happy and healthy... that's what matters most.

I'll add that being a SAHM and not working is a very big adjustment in itself.

Re: life after baby
I agree 100% with everything that has been said
I wanted to add that I really miss the alone time with DH. It was better once Emma was about 18 months when she would sleep through the night on a set schedule. Now I have to wait till Jeremy is older and a good sleeper before I can be more comfortable to make plans at night for DH and I.
