REfinishing/repainting baby furniture?

we have a crib but want to repaint it....

do we use normal paint that we'd use on the walls or do we use something else?

I would be careful...if the paint chips or if the baby puts her mouth on the crib it may chip in her mouth.

And if it's an older crib you need to make sure the bars aren't too far apart. MIL had saved DH's crib for us, but the bars were really wide apart (like 4 inches) and we were worried about her getting her head stuck in there. I forget what the width is supposed to be now, and Sarah's sleeping so I can't measure right now, but I'll let you know what ours is.

I know if a soda can can fit through the bars it's not safe...this one passed that test.

I just wanted to put a fresh coat on it to freshen it up

I don't remember where I saw it, I know this may not help at all, but I saw something that said if you are going to paint the crib to buy some kind of special paint that is totally non toxic that if the baby bites the crib it won't hurt them. Maybe try baby furniture stores, or stores that specialize in staining and painting furniture, they may carry something.
