teachers who are preggo....

how do you deal with the whole bathroom thing? I just sub but find myself (I know this is bad..) drinking less during the school day unless its around my prep and lunch times.....just so I don't have to hold any more pee than I have to since I can't just walk out and leave the kids.....any suggestions????

eta: no one knows still, either....

Re: teachers who are preggo....

Well, my classroom is right near the main office, so I just pop my head in and ask the receptionist to listen for the kids. But I rarely need to leave the room, and I drink a lot at work. You need to drink because it would be far worse for you to get dehydrated than to leave the kids for a minute or two. What is the typical age you sub for? If it's middle school or high school, I think you're perfectly fine to leave the room and maybe ask a neighboring teacher to keep an ear open.

I am not PG, but a lot of teachers in my building are. We try to keep an eye on each other's classes when someone has to go. I feel so bad, it is so hard because you can't just leave the room!

Re: teachers who are preggo....

Our faculty bathroom is on the the third floor and I work on the first floor, and to be honest, after a while, I just didn't care anymore and I use the kids' bathroom. When you gotta go, you gotta go!

Re: teachers who are preggo....

It's not easy. I teach high school & the nurses office is across the hall from my room, so I run there in between every period. I see her about 6 times a day! If I have to go during the period, I try to find someone in the hallway to keep an eye on the kids, if not, then I just go anyway!

Re: teachers who are preggo....

I was lucky enough to teach collaborative when I was pregnant, so there was always another teacher in the room. But a lot of teachers who aren't in the same situation just call the teacher across the hall and ask if she can stand in the hallway and just watch the class while they go. I've done this for my colleagues TONS of times!

Re: teachers who are preggo....

When I was pregnant and teaching, I would ask another teacher to watch my classroom while I went to the bathroom. Luckily, I didn't have to go that often...

I teach h.s. The rooms I teach in are right near the bathroom, so I usually run in there between periods. When I've had to go so bad during class, I just pop my head into the teacher across the hall and tell him to keep an eye out. That only happened like once though. Definitely don't stop drinking water!!! You don't want to det dehydrated.
