Baby's Remains Found on Long Island Road

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The body of a newborn baby that had been crushed by a car was discovered lying on a residential street Saturday, officials said.
A man walking his dog found the mangled body at 7:30 a.m. on a street near a golf course and a high school in Hempstead, about 20 miles east of Manhattan.
The naked body had been lying in the road for some time, probably more than a day, and may have been struck by more than one vehicle, said Detective Lt. Dennis Farrell of the Nassau County police.
Investigators had few clues about the infant and could not immediately determine the baby's race or gender. The man who made the gruesome discovery initially mistook the remains for a small animal, police said.
Police were canvassing hospitals, hoping to find some record of a woman who had recently given birth. Investigators also were considering the possibility that the baby was a stillbirth, Farrell said.

That just brought me to tears.... Im so desperate to have a baby and people just carelessly throw away a human life....further proof how unfair life is...
I do not have one bit of sympathy and never will for people who do this. There are "safe havens" everywhere, EVERYWHERE...just drop the baby at a church, anywhere for goodness sakes....What kind of monster doesnt have the ability to do that?

I read it in Newsday and actually had tears in my eyes. I looked @ dh and even he said, "its not fair that people throw babies away like everyday garbage". I almost lost it.
Its not right, especially to those of us who are TTC.
Life works in strange ways.

It broke my heart in half...How could someone be so cruel...???
I almost can't handle reading stories like this... I just hope that baby is at peace now.

DH is friends with the man who found this baby. He was just devasted..... Hugs to him for having to go through that awful discovery.

I agree 100% with you. Both me and my sister have fertility problems and it seems like all we here lately are horror stories like these!

i didn't hear about this until my mom told me. i was literally in tears, at the thought of what this poor innocent baby must've went thru!

That is very close to where I live. I'm on that other side of the golf course in West Hempstead. I cannot imagine that...I'm crying as I read that.....
