how do you girls handle when family members have procedures done that you can't be there to support them

My parents are in AZ and thankully are fairly healthy, but there have been times I flew in to be with them. They do have some friends that have helped out in the past.

phone calls mostly.
Depending on where it is, I try to get there. My grandfather had a stroke back in february while in Arizona, and we flew out to see him.

Ours are only about 2 hours away so if we can find the time and it is serious enough, we go. Usually phone calls are what we do.
