Feeding on Demand...

If you feed on demand how do you know if your baby is getting enough to eat...How do you know if he is drinking the ounces he's supposed to be drinking?

Re: Feeding on Demand...

I think that with feeding on demand you don't keep track of how many oz your baby is having. For example, I have always fed Noah whenever I think he is hungry. If he eats, he eats, if he doesn't...he isn't that hungry. That way he always has enough, so he gets what he needs.

I am way too disorganized to feed to a schedule and keep track of how much he is eating, as long as he is weeing and pooing and gaining weight, I don't worry about it!

I like to think of it as feeding on "cue" Chat Icon I read her signs and when she wants to eat I nurse her Chat Icon Ounces is more for formula terms... Breast feeding is way different... If your baby is gaining weight and thriving I am sure whatever you are doing is fine!

Sorry... The term "feeding on demand" is a commonly used breast feeding term...

Re: Feeding on Demand...

I would start with 2oz and see if he/she wants more. Keep track and by the end of the day add it all up. Babies self regulate. They do not over eat at this age.
Feeding on Demand just means that you are feeding your baby when he/she is hungry and not by some self-imposed schedule.
