How much crying is too much for a 4 day old baby?

My SIL has a 4 day old and from 10 pm to 5 am she says he is screaming and in pain, like he has gas. He has been home 2 days and has happened both nights. The Dr switched him to Soy yesterday and last night it happened again.

I have no experience with babies this young so I have no clue. Does he have his days and nights mixed up, or is this more then that? I gave them some Dr Brown's bottles so she will try that and see if that helps.

And advice you can give me to pass along would be great.

I switched bottles a few times but not formula...the Dr. Brown's did the best. We ended up putting Matteo on Zantac for his stomach, maybe she could find out about using something to help his belly, like that or Mylanta?? to your SIL!
