Apt Renters.... Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector
I'm moving to another apt mid-July, and am being charged for the Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors. Fine... but my only problem is, I was already charged for them, in my current apt... doesn't that mean that those are MINE to take with me, since I DID pay for them? OR that I would get my money back once I left?
I called my management, and apparently, I won't get a refund, and it's not MINE to keep!
So they're basically charging me to RENT it at the retail price??? 
Does anyone know about this?

We were just recently charged a $25 fee to have it serviced - we asked our management, since it is a requirement to have one in there to be able to rent the apartment, why we were being charged for it. They said it is legal to charge the tenant a $25 fee once a year for servicing the Smoke/CM Detector...seems like just one more way to get money from us if you ask me.

we paid the $25 fee when it was installed. So we're taking it with us when we move!! Let the new tenant pay for their CO detector!

I thought we could do that... but apparently, we have to leave it! If not, then they'll deduct it from the security deposit!
