We STarted cereal....does it give them gas?

OK...so I've given her 1 TBSP cereal with 1 oz formula so it's VERY liquidy with her last meal before bed. 2 nights ago, so pretty much finished the bottle afterwards, last night she took maybe 3 oz of the bottle afterwards.

Last night was TERRIBLE. Not that she doesn't fuss at all at night, but even in our bed she was squirmy, kicking, flailing, and just not sleeping soundly and farting like a truck driver.

Is it the cereal? Does it go away after a few days? She's dropped her late night feeding for the last week and slept through the night, but last night she took about 1/2 a bottle around 3:30am, I'm guessing since she was hungry from not finishing the bottle at 7:30pm

WHen we only used rice cereal Emily had some poop problems which made her gassy as well. When we started mixing the cereal with baby apple sauce it got so much better. Also some babies tolerage oatmeal better then rice and it is also safe to start in the beginning from what I've been told.

How old is she now?

The first night or 2 their bodies have to get used to it so they do seem a little gassier. Joseph was fine by day 3. What are you giving her? We have done oatmeal and it's by far the least disturbing...

she'll be 4 months on the 5th and we are doing rice cereal. No poop problems.....and she's always had gas issues but they were getting better till a few nights ago.

Maybe I'll give it a few more days and see how it goes. I also give her water here and there.

Definitely could be the cereal - any change in food will take time for some babies to adjust. Cereal often causes constipation (except my son - he got the opposite when we started).

The rice cereal could be starting to bind her up. We definitely had that problem over here.

rice cereal wasn't all that good for my DS. I put him on Oatmeal cereal only. He had to much gas with the Rice. Maybe try changing...

It can give them gas, but more than likely will bind them up.

We tried rice cereal a little after 4 months and she didn't take well to it. At 5 months we started oatmeal and she did much better.
Every baby's digestive system is different and some aren't ready for solids at the 4 month mark while others are. I say try oatmeal and see how she does and if she still seems to be uncomfortable maybe wait a couple of weeks and try again.

My daughter was really gassy with rice. When we tried oatmeal and barley she did much better.

Jacob was also very gassy with rice when i tried it last week. He was up at night scrunching his legs and farting like a hound dog.So i stopped and today at around 2pm i tried to give him oatmeal. Well he screamed and carried on and only got a finger full in his mouth. So i pretty much think he's not ready at all for cereal. Then at around 7 pm he started screaming and took the biggest dump. He usually doesnt poop that late in the day, so i think maybe it was the oatmeal. I dont know with this child of mine. He's gonna look awfully foolish when he's 16 out on a date, and carries a bottle of Nutramigen around in his pocket!!!!

I started her on Oatmeal and never switched from it. I give it to her for breakfast. My ped told me not to give her cereal with her last bottle becasue if she got full from the cereal she wouldn't finish her bottle.

It's okay though, b/c he'll be on a date w/ Alex & she'll have a bottle of it also!!!!!!!!!!
