Gina Ford -contented little baby book

Hi,

I am 6 mths pregnant and starting to freak out....feel like I know nothing about how to cope with a newborn - my first....so I ordered this baby book by Gina ford and wonder if any of you have heard of this author and if you bought the book did you practice any of it?

Thanks

Never heard of the book but its normal to be afraid I know I was and I still wonder if I am doing the right things with my daughter and how do I compare with other parents

ITs totally normal

Re: Gina Ford -contented little baby book

THanks....I wasnt worried up til this week and suddenly it dawned on me....and I started to panic...
Gina ford is supposed to be controversial as she is based in the UK and her whole thing is about getting the baby into a routine the moment its born...supposedly it works and the baby adapts very quickly...but just wanted feedback from any other moms who had maybe tried this....

Re: Gina Ford -contented little baby book

I have heard lots of good things about this book and intend to pick it up this weekend. The one thing that people are saying regarding this book is just to use it as a guideline, its got loads of great reviews on amazon.co.uk

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0091882338/qid=1131736338/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/026-5712238-4989212

Also, the late Tracy Hogg, The Baby Whisperer is really popular here in the UK, she has a show that is still being shown on TLC here. You can read some reviews here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0091857023/qid=1131736454/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_3_2/026-5712238-4989212

And she has a website
http://www.babywhisperer.com/

I think its important to remember that all babies are individual so these methods don't work for everyone and/or all babies...but I think they are good to use as references.

ps apologies for the links, you might have to cut and paste them into your browser.

Re: Gina Ford -contented little baby book

Thank you so much for the info and the links - I will check them out....

I know I will have to be flexible but dont want to end up like my sister who had a baby this past july and has literally been holding her baby 24/7 since.....she never naps and if she does its in her arms and then she sleeps in the bed with them at night....so I guess I know what I dont want and will figure out the rest as we go along.....

I just dont want to start bad habits early due to the fact that I havent a clue what I am doing and let the baby dictate how much sleep etc it gets.....Chat Icon

The first infant (baby under 6 months) that I ever held was my son. I read "The Happiest Baby on the Block" and "Becoming Baby Wise"
and I have a very happy little guy who eats like a champ and is now napping and sleeping like a champ and believe me I knew nothing and had no family around barely even a husband after 6 weeks.
It will all come to you but for us the babywise schedule and the swaddling techniques from the happiest baby saved my butt! There is also a video on swaddling with the same title as the book which is very helpful.

Good Luck! We have all been there!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I dont feel like I am a nut now with all your replies.....I have no family living here - they all live overseas and I think that is why I am so neurotic...dont want to drive my friends nuts with calling them every day....so will continue to read this book and see how it fits in.

Thanks everyoneChat Icon Chat Icon

I received Tracy's book while expecting and I found it extremely helpful because she gives advice on feedings and other practical things as well as her techniques for parenting. I didn't exactly do the routines she recommends, but I did find value in her attitude toward showing immediate respect for your newborn in the way you interact.
