Spinoff on Moms of 1+ yr olds - feeding questions...
If you are giving your little one food from your plate, do you modify the recipe?
For example: last night I made something with chilies in it. I couldn't imagine giving Kevin chilies at one.
What about cooking with wine? Is it safe to give them pieces of food from a dish made with red or white wine?
If you are giving your child meat, how do you cook it? I was thinking of poaching a chicken cutlet for him but it seems kinda bland.

Talia is only 10 months - but she eats everything.
I read in a parents magazine that it is ok to give your child spices at this age (and actually they recommend it). It helps round out their palatte I guess.
The only thing I really watch for is salt. I try to make sure to buy low sodium items, or cook without salt when I can. I believe the alcohol cooks off comepletely when you cook with wine so I wouldn't worry about that.
Cooking meat - I make meat balls, grilled chicken, roated chicken, baked chicken - basically anything that we are eating I give to Talia and she loves it all.

When I plan to make something spicy, I usually plan on giving him something else. Sometimes I'll also take some out for him before adding too many spices.
I would think cooking with wine is fine bc the alcohol evaporates when you cook it.

I don't modify my recipes. I let her eat it, and so far we've had no problems.

I don't modify recipes either
Ds's favorite is chicken cutlets made with parm cheese instead of breadcrumbs - fried with just a drizzle of EVOO I make a lot and keep them in the frige for his lunch for the week
DH likes it too

I don't modify too much. If it is something I don't feel comfy giving my son - like sushi, shellfish, Chinese/Thai type foods - then he gets chicken nuggets and veggies for dinner! But I have also done what someone above said - take some out before I spice it up too much.
He has had Mexican, Italian - with all the spices...although nothing super spicy but my chicken enchiladas and my beef chili had jalepenos in it (not a ton) and he loved it and that was when he was like 13 months or so.
