Christening on Father's Day...

DH's cousin planned their daughter's Christening for this coming Father's Day. Normally, that wouldn't be an issue and we would go. But this is DH's first Father's day and we really wanted it to just be the three of us and do something special, or nothing at all - but definitely DH's idea of a nice first Father's day is NOT going to someone's christening.

So...we have not RSVP'd yet. But we will be seeing the couple today at another party and I'm sure they will ask. We just can't think of a good excuse as to why we can't go. Should we just say, well, it's DH's first Father's day and we kind of had plans?

What would you do - would you go?

they picked that day, and I'm 100% sure that you will not be the only ones to say no. pretty selfish of them to pick that day, IMO.

I would tell them that you have a day trip planned and sorry, but you can't make it.

Re: Christening on Father's Day...

See thats the reason I get so upset when people pick holidays for there party gtg's its so annoying. I would just say what you wrote, that its your DH's first fathers day and we have plans already. I'm sure they will understand. Hopefully!

Re: Christening on Father's Day...

I'm sorry but to have a christening or graduation on Father's day or a Communion part on Mother's day is not a good idea if you want a big turnout. Most people have plans.

You guys should enjoy his first Father's Day. Send a card and gift. They should have realized this.

My cousin did this about three or four times (he has 8 kidsChat Icon )

One year it was on Superbowl Sunday. My father actually said no because he was running the KofC party that night.

They held two others on Father's and Mother's Day.

We stopped schlepping to Jersey after kid #4.

I wouldn't go. Just send a gift and a card.

I think people that do this - also know that they are not going to have everyone come. I would send a card and go and have a great Father's Day with your DH and little one Chat Icon

Re: Christening on Father's Day...

I agree, don't go. Send a card and when you see them today, just tell them the truth.

Parties on "family" holidays like that are just weird.

My aunt and uncle can't be around for mother's day tomorrow (we all make dinner for Grandma) because their kid has a KIDDIE BIRTHDAY PARTY to go to! ON MOTHER'S DAY!!! Chat Icon

Re: Christening on Father's Day...

If it were a niece or nephew's christening, I would probably go. For a cousin's child, I would graciously decline and send a card/gift.
