I have an interview scheduled for today and she wanted me to call her back to confirm I will be there before coming.

I have to go far for the interview because they only interview at their headquarters.

I am not sure what they are offering but I am afraid it will be a waste of time and aggravation ( I would have to bring Andrew to SIL and it is such an ordeal packing him up) if they are paying less then what I want.

Do you think I can ask her over the phone?

*******Some Good News: It was postponed until Monday which gives me more time to prepare. I was told about this interview last night so I was a little frazzled this morning trying to get ready. I feel so much better

The rule I have always heard is not to ask until the 2nd or 3rd interview

Yeah, I would not ask at this point in the interview process. If it is a large company, sometimes I have anonymously called HR and asked about the pay range for a particular position without giving my name.

If it was a headhunter, I would definitely ask. If it was a company calling, I may ask the range of compensation to expect before the 2nd interview.

Is the position listed on the company website? Sometimes they will list the salary range next to the position posted.............

Just look at this as preparation for when every day is going to be work! Interviews are a necessary evil.

For me the higher I am getting in my positions, the less salaries are disclosed. It always says, "Based on education and experience."

When I was in college I FLEW to NYC about 10 times for jobs I then didn't want.

Re: Is it rude to ask someone how much they are offering when they call to set up an interview?

I hate this part of the job search. I interviewed for a position which was a nightmare interview, allt hings went wrong, etc, and then foudn out the salary was next to nothing and I wasted all my time. Now that I am looking ( Im always looking) Im afraid to keep wasting time on jobs that sound interesting but money wise could be way off the mark?

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR interview!!!!!

Don't you hate that it's so hard to just ASK how much you would be making for a potential job???? I HATE that!!!! Chat Icon IMO that's a major part of the decision process!

I'm looking now and I've had them tell me the range but it is hard to ask them.

Recently, I just didn't because I "felt" that it would be a certain amount and it was.

But, I have on occasion asked what the range was... I think it depends.

I actually turned down two interviews because of this and I am so glad I didn't take a day off for them!
