Allowing children around babies

I am having a hard time lately allowing children around Justin. I am worried about him getting sick from them. He is only 6 weeks old. My friend was supposed to come over tomorrow and wants to bring her two boys who are 3 and 5. What are your thoughts on this? When did you let your newborn around other children? My doc said to keep them away from school age children due to colds and flu season.

Thanks. I just feel like people get mad at me when I tell them I do not want them here with the kids. You would think they would understand having kids themselves.

I totally ****** off some of my family members, but I didn't care. I just told them that I'm being an overprotective new mommy and the doctor really scared me with what could happen if she gets a fever. it's not like they were going to stay up to care for her all night if she got sick.

and it's not like they haven't done things to piss me off in the past, I figured they'd get over it too! Chat Icon

I would tell them what your dr said.
You have to protect your baby. There is NO reason why the kids can't wait to see the baby.

Maddie got cox sackie at 1 week old and had to have a spinal tap. Joseph had RSV at 3 months old.

I would be adamantly against having the kids touch/kiss/hold the baby. Don't feel bad about this at all. I can tell you no matter how short the hospital visit is - the first time your baby gets really sick, you won't even think twice about it as another kid reaches into the bassinet.

I think we went out around other kids around 6 or 8 weeks but I knew no one was sick because my friends are really careful about letting each other know if someone is sick.

ETA: No children came near her or touched her though. I was pretty picky about that.
