Woman Charged After Toddler Falls From Car
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A woman was ordered jailed on child abuse charges Thursday after she allegedly failed to notice that her unrestrained toddler had tumbled out of her car as it rounded a curve.
The child suffered cuts and bruises and was rescued from the street by several passersby.
Besides child abuse, LarHonda McMillan, 23, was booked on charges of child neglect, reckless endangerment and driving under the influence. She told a judge that she's been under a lot of stress and is also battling cocaine addiction.
``I'm working on third shift, and I'm a single parent, and at the same time I'm trying to do better for me and my child and it's hard,'' she said before she was ordered jailed on $79,000 bond.
It took police about four hours Wednesday afternoon to identify the boy as Ladarius McMillan, believed to be about 2 years old. He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
``Three family members called within about five minutes of each other after they saw the news on TV,'' said police Detective Rickey Ollis.
Witnesses said they saw the boy jumping up and down in the car's back seat, Ollis said. When the vehicle rounded a curve, the boy fell out after opening the door and the car drove on without him.
Witnesses tried to stop the mother by yelling and honking their horns, but were unsuccessful.
The child was placed in the custody of the state Department of Children's Services and remains in a foster home, spokeswoman K. Danielle Edwards said Thursday.
State law requires children ages 1-3 to be secured in a safety seat; violators can be fined $50. There was no immediate word whether a citation would be issued for that infraction.

Okay I understand working lots of shifts and being a single mom must be hard - but you can still put the kid in a car seat!!
And 4 hours later??? What was she doing for 4 hours while the kid was lost???

Probably out looking for cocaine?
There are plenty of women out there who have to struggle and work a lot, and most of them probably manage to put their kids in car seats.

It makes me SO MAD when I see people who don't have their children in child seats or in seat belts. Or when you see a child infant seat in the fron seat!!! ARE YOU PEOPLE THAT STUPID It tells you right on the visor DO NOT put them in the front seat due to airbags!!!! It makes me so mad when these kids are jumping all over the car. And this mother should go to jail for a long time and not get her kid back. I usually yell at these people.
People in this world can't have kids and some people are just willing to throw them away!
