refinishing hardwood floors - ok price?

we got a price for refinishing our hardwood floors of $1790. this includes securing any loose boards, sanding and refinishing with 1 coat of sealer and three coats of polyurethane for:

living room (18-2/3 x 12-1/3), foyer 1 (2 x 4), foyer 2 (13-1/2 x 5-3/4) and stairs - 13 steps + 1 landing.

can anyone tell me if this is a reasonable price? it just seems a little high to us but we thought it might be that high because of the stairs.

TIA

I think that is a little high. I paid about the same thing and had a kitchen, living room dining room, 13 stairs, hallway, one landing and 3 bedrooms done. I am not sure of the dimentions of the rooms but my living and dining room are pretty good sizes, and the bedroom are normal bedroom sizes nothing to large or small (sorry to sound like an idiot). Get somemore prices.

I think that may be a little high also. We got two quotes and they were not as high as that. The highest quote we got was, I believe $1400.

Calculate out your total square feet, and then calculate how much you are paying per square foot. We had our floors done on the whole first level of our hi-ranch 5 years ago and we paid $1.50/sq. ft. I think the price has gone up, but generally it should be less than $2/sq. ft.

Yes, but keep in mind stairs are always more because they must be done by hand.

Our house was completely empty when we moved in. That's easier for them so we negotiated the price. I have a colonial with 4 large bedrooms, wrap around hallway, full staircase, large diningroom, entryway. We also needed repair work done and a sill replaced. We paid 3K cash.

ETA: I wanted two additional coats of moisture-cure poly. So a total of 5 coats... my floors look like a bowling alleyChat Icon You do pay extra if you want extra coats. Most floor-guys won't use Moisture-Cure... it's the best stuff but it REALLY smells. We had to air out the house for an entire day.

I paid $2.00 a sq/ft and $100 for the stairs. He used some special poly which might of been the moisture cure that someone else said but i am not positive. I do know it was very strong. He was very clean and he used some dustless system and their wasnt any dust, granted it was hard to notice b/c we gutted half our house and it was hard to tell but I have recommened him to people and they ahve said the same thing.
