Advice on getting 7 month old to sleep through the night????

My DS has been waking up ever since he was a wee one and now at 7 going on 8 months - I thought it would stop.

He still wakes up six hours after he goes to sleep and he will actually eat 4-6 ounces. I feel him at 7 pm. ie. tonight he ate one jar of stage two green beans / 1/2 jar of fruit and 1/2 jar of fruit mixed with cereal. After his bath about 8:30 p.m. he'll have a bottle of 6 onces and then I bet he'll wake up at 2:30 am - 3:30 am.

Any advice? I'm tired and pregnant again.

Congrats on being pregnant again! Did I miss an announcement? Chat Icon Chat Icon

Have you tried to soothe him back to sleep without feeding him when he wakes up in the night? He's probably just doing it out of habit. I don't think he needs to eat during the night at this age. If he won't go back to sleep you could try CIO if that's something you're open to. Good luck! I can only imagine how much you need that extra sleep! Chat Icon

We used CIO method around 5 1/2 months and it worked.

I agree --- sooth him without feeding him. His body is used to getting that food.

You can start by weaning him down...

6 oz first night or two
then 4
then 2
then just comfort him back to sleep.

I also stuck by the rule of not taking her out of the crib when she woke up -- just would rub her back, give her the paci, turn on her mobile and tell her it was nite nite time.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

With DD I just stopped giving her that midnight bottle. When she woke up, I comforted her, but I also let her cry a little. It was a matter of days before she stopped needing that bottle.

I would also stop the feeding in the middle of the night but if he really wants something then I would prolbably give him water. I also noticed that my DS slept better when he put himself to sleep, meaning I didnt rock him to sleep. Right after his bottle I put him in his crib away with the mobile and he is usually asleep before the music finishes which lasts 15 minutes. Also is he crying or just fussing. I do not pick DS up when he fusses unless it goes on for more than 1/2 hour.

Thank you everyone. It's just so hard not to feed him because he cries for so long. But if you are all saying then I would have to say that I have to try it. This might sound silly but what is CIO??
