Question about breast feeding...with a poll...I'm curious to know what you all think
I just read a post on another board about a women who's son is over 2 years old and she is so proud that she is still breast feeding him.
This seems very weird to me, I think the child is too old to be nursing! What do you guys think?

Same here
I know that for me personally, I already feel uncomfortable about the prospect of breast feeding in general.. it remains to be seen what I will do when that time comes
But I am fairly certain that there would be no way I would BF a child by the age of 2 .. they are a toddler by then.. while I realize its "normal" it would not be something I would consider

OOOOPS! I voted NO by accident! I meant, NO, the child should NOT be still breastfed! I think he is TOO old!
So, please count me in as another YES!

I believe it's too old, too... however, it is THE best way to nutrition your child... and if you're still producing, then why not?
Would I? Probably not... lol. I'll probably do it until they start walking away from me.. If you can walk, then you can feed yourself!

My mom took me off the boob when I got my first tooth -- and drew blood!!
I think that is a clear indication that "IT'S TIME"!!

Yep, dummy me! I had such a quick reaction since I feel strongly about this and thought "NO WAY! = NO" After I submitted it I saw all the YES ansers and thought... isn't that strange???????????

Ouch! definately!
I worked for Stride Rite shoes when I was in college and actually had a mother come into the store to buy shoes for her 5 year old. She picked them out, I measured the child and when I came back from the stockroom with them, there she was BF her 5 year old son! I was like, ahhh, I'll give you a few minutes and started back into the stockroom when she said, " oh no honney, why don't you just try them on him while he's sitting still! He won't be still for long!" I said, well, I'll be right back and ran into the stockroom. I eventually sent out my manager to finish up the sale.

Re: Question about breast feeding...with a poll...I'm curious to know what you all think
Actually much of the rest of the world breastfeeds for a lot longer than the US. The World Health Organization (division of the UN) suggests 2 years. The US is actually pretty conservative about it.
That being said I hope to for a year. If it's too uncomfortable I will pump.
I don't believe that any formula can really replace breast milk.

OMG!! That's awful.
My SIL is still BFing her son, who is 16 months and we all think she's nuts.
Like Kara said - when the kid gets teeth, he's done with the teet!!

Re: Question about breast feeding...with a poll...I'm curious to know what you all think
I breastfed my son for 1 year, and he had 8 teeth by 8 months. I had no problems. I think that if the BF is mutally agreeable between a 2 year old and his mother, I see nothing wrong with it. I think the attitudes of people in the US discourage it from happening longer. While I personally didn't go more than a year, I think that's fine. A 5 year old? I'm not sure I'm confortable with that!

Re: Question about breast feeding...with a poll...I'm curious to know what you all think
I love breastfeeding and stopped at 8 months because of production issues, I would have liked to go to a year. However, I think that when they can walk on their own and independently saddle up to the tap, they are too old. And if they are old enough to ask... well I personally think this may later be psychologically problematic (in our culture). It is best nutritionally and in other countries it is completely acceptable at age 5 and even older. But here, because it is not socially acceptable I disagree with it- not because I would be embarrassed but because I think the later psychological issues outweigh the medical benefits .

I agree, when the teeth come out and I begin to get bit - the weaning begins!
