Has/will anyone delivered at Winthrop and not taken lamaze?
I am wondering if the hospital requires the coach(DH) to take lamaze. I know that some hospitals require it. I already called and left a message for them, but thought that you girls could help me faster

I don't think you have to. I know lots of people who did not take Lamaze, but took another class. I delivered at Winthrop, but I did take their Lamaze, which I thought was informative for lots of things, not just breathing.

Do you remember how much it was and when the classes were? I start tax season next month so it will be hard to go durning the week and DH also works in the city and it is a very busy time of year for him in Jan. & Feb.

I think lamaze is important because it informs you on what to expect, when you should go to the hospital and it also includes a tour of the unit. As far as learning how to breathe and stuff we all know that goes right out the window when women go into labor so don't stress about that

My sister took Bradley courses & delivered with a midwife there. She labored in a hotel room (to avoid driving in rush hour, they showed up too early -1cm), so she had her acupuncture teacher do pressure points to speed up the labor.

I did Bradley courses too (although I was cared less about having a natural childbirth but was willing to try it). I found the classes helpful for pain management & in terms of what to expect, the stages of labor, etc. Ultimately I didnt need any pain medication, but if that's not important to you than I would consider taking Lamaze.
I already saw my twin deliver her daughter - but it was a good refresher. For example, after delivering, she started shaking - enough that it looked a little scary to me. I remembered it for when I delivered & warned my husband about it. When they had a problem with me hemorraghing & I was shaking, I was calm about it telling him it was perfectly normal & my twin did it.
I went a bit too early & wound up skipping the last 2 classes. I think my DH was more thrilled about that than his new son. If I had to do it over again - I'd take the 2 - 3 hour courses rather than the 6 week course.

What do you mean by shaking? From the delivery?

It is common for women to shake sometimes uncontrollably before and after they deliver.

Just about 10 minutes or under 10 minutes. I read it was the adrenal. Picture having run a marathon & how you can feel shaky afterwards. You're just not going to walk it off though bc you really don't feel much like walking

I totally agree. I just finished up the class at Winthrop and I think it was good for DH especially. We actually enjoyed going every week it made it more real.

is Lamaze the only class they offer there? I'd like to take something to familiarize myself with L&D, but I'm not so interested in Lamaze.

I delivered at Winthrop and I didn't take ANYTHING! Not a Lamaze class or a tour of the hospital.

I'm taking the class starting January 2. It's 4 mondays. The last day is a tour. it's from 8:00-10:00. and it was $150.00. DH isn't going to be there with me. I'm bring my mom. (we are in the middle of moving to California )

After reading everyone's posts I decided to take the class. I think it will both DH and myself prepare for delivery. I am actually very excited because it is another thing to make this pregnancy more real. I am taking scheduled for March 6 to March 27th on Monday's
