Mom's Who had C-Sections.....

Can you tell me what you wore at the hospital while you were there and what you wore home? I know people told me to get granny panties which i plan on doing, but can i wear my own pajamas at the hospital or since i have a surgical scar will i need to wear the gown the whole time i am there??

Also, any ideas of what i can wear home would be great. A lot of my pants i wear under my belly, so when they say loose and comfy i don't know if I should go out and get something just for coming home?? Also, I assume i should go for maternity wear?? Or will I be able to wear like jogging pants that i wore before i was pregnant.

Thanks for any advice.

Re: Mom's Who had C-Sections.....

Coming home from the hospital I wore sweats which were totally fine. In the hospital I wore my own nightgowns along with the hospital ones and I bought a package of mens boxers which were very comfy. Granny panties work well too and you shouldn't need them once you come home. My recommendation is to walk as much as you can while in the hospital, it will make coming home much easier.

Don't bring pj pants to the hospital-- there is no way you will want to try to get those on and off in the first couple days after your c-section. I made this mistake because I wasn't expecting a c-sec and had literally nothing to wear except the hospital gown with a bathrobe! Nightgowns and nightshirts will be soooo much more comfy.

By the time you come home, any sort of loose, soft sweats will be fine.

The first day after the c/s I wore the hospital gown to be comfortable. For the next few days in the hospital I wore soft cotton granny undies to hold the pads in place and cover the incision without irritating it. I had on pj bottoms or xl light sweat pants all with a high waist so the waist band comes much higher then the scar. I also had some button down pj tops for BF. You can wear pants because after the first day the doctors and nurses only check your incision not 'down there'.

nightgowns all the way. you dont want anything resting on that incision, and the doctors come to check you like every 10 minutes. its easier to have a nightgown and so much more comfy. and coming home i wore my little summer maternity dress. again, no pants on my incision. Chat Icon

I guess everyone is different, I wore PJ pants and it did not bother me at all. Nursing PJ's with pants & granny panties Chat Icon . They were drawstring PJ's and were very comfy. I am not a nightgown person, I wore a nightgown for about an hour and had to take it off. I was BF'ing in the hospital and wearing a "nursing nightgown" was annoying to me and I felt like an old lady. The nursing PJ's I had I loved! Thank goodness I packed two pairs of them and only one night gown! I had Dh run out to get me more of the nursing PJ's while i was in the hospital. Chat Icon

I wore nursing maternity gowns and bathrobes.

I forgot to bring clothes to wear home so I wore what I wore there home, maternity shorts and a t-shirt, I wore them for and hour when I went there to be induced.

Ali - don't be surprised that you will still look very pg. Other singleton moms looked better, but I looked like I still had one in there, LOL. I knew I would still be big, but I didn't realize how big at first, but then again I was HUGE with the two of them.

I did the same exact thing. I actually made my MIL go to the store for me to get me granny undies. The C-sections was unexpected so I just had my regular undies I usually wear, but they would have rubbed the incision.

Re: Mom's Who had C-Sections.....

I wore the gown the first day. You don't want to move anyway. Then I also wore it the first half of the second day. They make you get up and walk around. After that, I wore flannel pajama pants and I actually wore tshirts. You may want to wear button up shirts if you're BF.

On the way home I wore my maternity sweatpants. Well, they weren't sweatpants, but they were soooo comfortable, and was like a stretchy/cotton material. Chat Icon I definitely wore them mid belly. Nothing below belly. Too painful! Good luck!

I wore the hospital gown until day 3. TMI: I was bleeding a lot and did not want to ruin my own clothes. By day 3 I took a shower and wore a nightgown. I did not want something on my incision.

I wore home a pair of maternity yoga pants and I t-shirt. Make sure the pants go above your belly. You don't want anything on your incision.

I also brought a bathrobe which I wore everyday. My baby was in NICU so I had to walk there everyday. I felt better in my robeChat Icon

Definetly gowns and granny panties! I wore home sweats and a maternity t-shirt.

eta: I brought my own nightgowns, the only time I wore a hospital gown is in the recovery room.

Re: Mom's Who had C-Sections.....

I wore the hopsital gown in the hospital and what I wore to the hospital home (b/c I barely lost anything - since they pump you with so many IVs)

one thing that my OB gave me that I LOVED was a post-pardum belt. It really made the incision feel better (when I took it off I noticed the difference), but BRU has much nicer ones than what OB gave me - next time I'll buy a nice one

ETA: if you are nursing - I wore a nursing tank the whole time there

Re: Mom's Who had C-Sections.....

I wore a nursing nightgown with matching robe. (Macy's) It had enough access, but enough privacy when I put the robe on. I also wore granny panties and a huge nursing bra- not a sexy sight.Chat Icon

I brought lounge pants and stretchy top for the ride home- which were too tight. When I got home I threw on DH's pajama bottoms and I button down shirt.

Re: Mom's Who had C-Sections.....

I wore pj shorts and a button down pj top because I was going to nurse. I had no problem with the pj bottoms.

I had a ton of visitors and did not think I would be comfortable in the hospital gown in front of everyone. I had no trouble with the pj bottoms. They were elastic and just slid down when they needed to check my incision or I had to go to the bathroom.

I went home in one of those maternity velour jogging suits. Just make sure nothing it tight and you will be fine.

Re: Mom's Who had C-Sections.....

The first day I wore the gown and the mesh panties they give you. After that, my own pjs and granny panties. I would think coming home, you'd want to avoid the under the belly maternity pants. I think the waistband would be right where your incision will be. Probably some sweats are a better option - maybe a size bigger than your usual ones - or full belly maternity pants. You do get very puffy from the IVs, my feet are just starting to go down @ 2 weeks post partum so make sure your slippers/shoes/socks are nice and loose too. Someone upthread mentioned the post partum belt (girdle). I had no idea about one with my first 2 pregnancies (vbirth & c/s) but I asked for one with this one and the nurse gave me one. They dont seem to just routinely give them and actually another nurse told me that the doctor is supposed to be the one who prescribes one (the nurse broke the rules for me obviously) - it really helps. But you have to ask for one.
