SO we have decided to get a second dog.UPDATE ON BOTTOM!!
I lost my baby Copper this past december to Lymphoma. Our dog Barney is sooooo wonderful, but Lonely I think. Honestly, we really loved having two dogs together. So we decided we want # 2 again. We want a large breed. Saint Bernard, or Mastiff..(YAY More Slobber)
I have filled out an application for saint bernard rescue, there is also one at NSAL we will go look at this weekend, if he is still there. If anyone has any recommendations of advice, please share. We will only do a rescue, no breeders, no pet shops....
My question is, since we do not want a puppy (our schedules do not allow it right now) and I really want to help an older dog in need. How is the adjustment? Do the dogs bond as strongly to you, as when you have them from just a lil guy? I just know when you adopt, many times, you do not get to spend much time with them to get to know them, and see if they will fit with your family, I am a little nervous...especially with such a large breed.

I don't have any advice, but wanted to say
Good Luck with the application you filled out.
DH and I wanted a St Bernard for the longest time, but went with a Golden instead, but I love St Bernards

FYI...There was a St. Bernard at NSAL yesterday (Sunday)...1 1/2 yrs. old. (I saw it in Newsday).

Lulu, I love mastiffs.  If I could get a dog, that would be the breed. Good luck and let us know what happens!

We called about this one actually. His name is Luck, but he is one of the really really big ones. We are looking for a smaller female I think. I heard from the rescue, and there is a girl we are interested in. There is a LOT that needs to happen for the adoption to go through, and we are only in the beginning, so keep your fingers crossed for us. Her name is Lola
