Advice needed....

OK- so while on vacation RJ slept in bed with us everynight....We attempted the pack-n-play, but he wasnt too comfy, and ended up with us (which NEVER happens while we are home)

Well- the 1st 2 nights we were home, he had no problem with his cribe.... the 3rd night was the night he got his shots- sure enough woke in the mid. of the night (usually Id let him CIO, but I knew he was just prob from his shots, and laid down with him in our bed...) the 2nd nights- was the day he had been sick sure enough he woke up again in the mid of the night, and again I wouldnt let hime CIO cause he had been sick all day....

And well that was WED night...and hes ended up with us everynight since......he goes down in his crib no problem, as well for when he naps... but for some reason, in the mid. of the night he gets up...Within seconds after laying with him cuddle in the crook of my arms he is asleep...(as long as I dont fall asleep too- I do put him back in his crib)

Again- Im a ferber fan...thats what got Ryan taking reg. naps, and sleeeping through the night... but this time its different...A child who never screamed at a level 10- is screaming at it and the entire time... no letting up...

Dh is actually getting upset with me...Last night he got up to handle him (he mustve give him his binky and just sat outside his room letting him cry....)well since the crying was so intense I flew in there like a bat outta h ell and picked up the baby and brought him in our bed....Dh had a few choice words about that Chat Icon

I know Im just making it worse- but its not about my bed as much as its about he just wants to feel close to someone/something...as soon as hes cuddled...(whether Im sitting, standing, on the couch, or on the table...it dosent matter)

What can I do?

Re: Advice needed....

what about cuddling with him in his room (glider, rocker?) and soothing him back to sleep. He probably just wants to be cuddled and loved on to go back to sleep. Try that for the 3 nights it takes to recreate a habit, if that doesn't work, I'd try the CIO again.

He could still be reacting to his shots? Which shots did he have? How long is the screaming?
My ped said reactions can last/show up for up to 3 weeks.
Could he be too hot? cold? We realized part of M's problem was that we had her a little too warm for bedtime.

Well of course he's continuing to get up at night... he'd much rather be cuddled up with you and get your attention. And now, he figured out how to get it. I totally understand how this happened. I would have done the same thing with the trip, the shots, the cold, etc.

If it were me, I'd let him CIO. Actually, I'd make DH do it the first night. Chat Icon I hate to say but I don't think there's any easing out of this. Chat Icon

He had the 2nd round of HIB and pneumocactyl(however you spell it)....The screming lasts until I cave and go and get him...

Its different from the last time I did CIO- I dont know if its because when I did CIO last time... it was more for sleeping through the night...rather than sleeping in our bed... (he really never slept with us before...so we just created a new habit)

I was just wondering if he had the DTaP because I know it's reaction can be that screaming.
Hmmmm why not run it by the ped. and see what he says because there's always the chance it could be something bothering him from the shots, probably not but you never know. I just hate to say to let him CIO (not that I would) if something is actually bothering him.

Sorry, I have no advice. At 3, Ryan now just brings himself to our bed at 4AM every night. Sometimes we just wake up and he is there.

Re: Advice needed....

I was also just thinking that it could also be bad teething as well that is keeping him up at night and making him uncomfortable. Emily has been waking up a lot in the night and I mentioned it to the pediatrician and she said it is most likely from the teething because she seems to be in full blown teething mode right now.
