Ice cubes for dogs?

Has anyone ever heard that it's bad to give dogs ice cubes? I throw a couple in Misty's water when it's hot like this and today, at a friends, he told me that it's bad for dogs. I never heard this before and of course, now I am worried and maybe should stop.

I never heard that! I give Bama ice cubes to chew on after we come back from a walk. It helps cool him down without him having to gulp tons of water (which makes him throw up).

I have been giving them to Casey since we got her - she exactly goes to the fridge to ask for them. She loves them.

I have noticed that the last 2 times I have given them to her, she has gotten sick. Chat Icon

Re: Ice cubes for dogs?

Our trainer and vet recommended we give her ice cubes INSTEAD of her gulping water when she's hot in the summer...it's much easier for their systems when they're overheated.

I did a little research and all I can come up with is that - the crunching can break their teeth. I guess if they had little teeth - cause I don't think there is a way that Casey's teeth can break! Chat Icon Chat Icon

As for bad for their health, I couldn't find anything. Chat Icon
