Having trouble sleeping...

I know this might sound really strange...but I lived alone before marriage, and obviously now DH lives with me, and we sleep in the bed together. Since he's moved in, I am honestly not sleeping well, and it's really starting to get to me now (physically and emotionally.)

I have a feeling it's b/c I'm not used to sleeping next to someone, and fortunately not stress related or anything.

Did anyone go through this? I'm getting to the piont where I'm going to take a sleeping aid to at least get 6+ hours.

It took me a while to get used to sleeping with DH when we moved in together. It passes and it gets to where it's hard to sleep without him there.

Yes I went through the same thing. Now I'll make you laugh. When we got married, it was the first time we'd actually slept in the same bed..........well I couldn't sleep, b/c I was scared to death that he might kill me. I was talking myself into hysteric and asking myself............"Do i really know this guy". We dated for 3 yearsChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

What I did was start sleeping with the radio on, really low, but it helped. After a couple of weeks, the radio was never turned on again, only of course at those moments when you would like the music to go with the rythmChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know how you feel. In our old apartmentwe had a pretty big bed, but we put our stuff in storage b/c we are renting my parents beach house for the summer, and now we sleep on a much smaller bed. And i wke up a lot feeling cramped. I am sure i will get used to it.

I agree....

Both DH and I are finally at a point where we can sleep through the entire night, and I don't toss and turn as much and now stay on MY side of the bed! (I was a middle of the bed sleeper!)

Now I don't sleep well when DH is away on business. Everyone in my office always know when he's away, because I'm a zombie

I think it will just take some time to get used to. I had the opposite problem- I can't sleep well when DH isn't beside me.

Re: Having trouble sleeping...

It does take some time! My DH came from having a king bed when he lived with his parents, to sleeping in a king bed with me!!! You can imagine how fustrating that was. I don't like body heat, so I could not sleep for the life of me! After some time, I have gotten use to it & in fact, the past week, my DH has had to drag me out of bed bc I miss my alarm Chat Icon

Re: Having trouble sleeping...

Chris,

I went through the same thing sweetie. When John first moved in, it killed me. I used to sleep slanted across the middle of the bed. When he moved in, I couldn't do it and it messed with my sleep for WEEKS! It took a while to get used to him there. Maybe you could try going to bed before Ricky?

I go to sleep before him, and it's not a problem, but then I wake up in the middle of the night (around 2am) and can't get back to sleep.

I really hope I'll get over it soon!

Thanks for your love! Chat Icon

The opposite thing happened to me! I was an insomniac (never diagnosed or anything) before I moved in with DH. I would only sleep about 3 hours a night.

My recommendation is to just try to relax, don't think about the fact that someone else is in the bed with you, just try to keep your mind clear and you will be able to relax enough to sleep.

It'll get better, I promiseChat Icon

Re: Having trouble sleeping...

Yes, I went through this when DH and I first moved in together. I have to go to bed before him and be asleep when he gets into bed. Even now, 5 years later, that is still the case. Not ideal, but that's the only way we can both get some sleep.

If we go to bed together, I can't fall asleep and I end up waking him up and telling him to go on the couch and come back. Or, me going on the couch. Chat Icon

It took us some getting used to...but now we are fine. We just got a king bed (a Simmons beauty rest, where u can barely feel the person turn over) and that has made it really good!
