Check cashing question....I know this doesn't belong here but......
I talk to you guys everyday so i feel more comfortable posting here than on the other boards. Ok.....so i've been back to work for a month now and I finally received a pay check after not getting one for months......I was so excited to actually have money and not have to grub from Dh that i ran to the bank ASAP and deposited it through the ATM not realizing that it was post dated for the 30th.....oppps....so what happens now....does the bank fine me?

Did you cash it or take money out against it using atm, or did you just deposit it? I think if you just deposited it they will hold it.. If they do charge you and you go to a branch mngr and explain what happened they are usually very helpful and may get the charges reversed..

You can deposit a post dated check and not get fined. Actually I dont think that their is such a thing as a post dated check. If the check was dated for lets say April instead of December I dont believe the bank will accept it. I went to deposit a check at work oneday and our client wrote 12/26 instead of 10/26 and I brought it to banks attention and I had to get a new check. I wouldnt worry though it is only a week early.

I'm with Adrianna - I think they'll accept it. Try not to take out money against it if you can.

I was told by a bank employee that they don't recognize a postdate. If the person writes a check, you can take it to the bank. They told me that postdated checks are "illegal". If the money isn't available to cover a check, then it shoudn't be written. I don't know if this information is correct, but it is what I was told.
