Help on these homes & areas

I need some help. I found these couple of homes. Please tell me about the area & the commute & schools. My husband is a carpenter & one of groomsmen was a electrician, so that helps!! We aren't scared of work. I greatly appreciate it! We want a decent area, decent schools, under 3K with less that $5,500 in taxes. I know its hard, but I don't want to move multiple times. Thanks

West Babylon? Do they have there own schools, because I know N. Babylon's schools aren't so hot.

I know a lot about Deer Park, but how are Deer Park's schools?

Re: Help on these homes & areas

Lindenhurst is a nice area, i would stay south of sunrise though.

west bablyon has their own schools. They are pretty decent, id say comparable to Lindenhurst.

Based on the mapped locations...

W. Babylon - Looks kind of close to Wyndanch?

W. Babylon 2 - Belmont is a very busy main road.

Lindenhurst - North Lindenhurst, bordering on North Amityville????

Lindenhurst 2 - Can't figure out where this is, but no pictures would concern me.

Deer Park - I know someone who lives off Carlls Path and it seems like a nice neighborhood. This looks like the nicest house on your list.

The first WB house isn't near Wyandanch. It's actually further than some areas pf WB. The 2nd one is on a main road. It looks like the 1st Lindy house is somewhat near straight path (?) in the number streets and personally, I'm not a fan of that particulat area of Lindy. I think the second Lindy home is somewhat near the village, but not actually in the village.

I agree about Lindy - except that second house is in the village isnt it? It says village taxes arent in it?

My FH lives in North Lindenhurst off of Straight path...as soon as we find a place his parents are out of there, the neighborhood is really not great.

I agree.

The 1st WB house is close to Montauk Highway. It's actually walking distance to the Blockbuster shopping center on Montauk. There are some decent stores in that area and it's a relatively good neighborhood.

The 2nd WB house is in a decent area as well, but Belmont is a very busy street. I personally would not want to live on that road.

As for the 2 Lindy homes, I don't like the area of the first one and the second one is awfully close to Copaigue. Not as familiar with that area.

I don't know much about Deer Park though.

Oh and WB has it's own school district entirely.

As a matter of fact, I think once you cross over Belmont Avenue (east of Belmont), you are in the N. Babylon school district.

Re: Help on these homes & areas

Average commute to Penn from Babylon? About 1 hrour & 10 min.

How long will it take you to get to the Babylon train station from these locations? Closest home is the 1st WB home (red house) and maybe 5 minutes.

Babylon Village residents are allowed to park in the lots at the station, with a village permit. But WB residents can pay to park in a nearby lot. Not sure what the monthly parking fee is.

Re: Help on these homes & areas

so our commute really does shorten down there because that is what I have now from Central Islip. Not sure hubby will go for that. We want to at least save some time & money on commuting.

Thanks so much

Re: Help on these homes & areas

W. Babylon is a good school district, I used to teach there. Its a very blue collar neighborhood, nice kids.
I would live there, no problem.

Not all of WB is in the W.B school district, some is in N. Babylon (not so good) and a little bit is actually in Babylon (good schools, very small).

Lindenhurst I don't know too much about, some is in Suffolk some is in NAssau. I think the suffolk part is in the lindenhurst s.d. and the nassau part might be copaigue.

Deer Park is a nice area, similar to W. Babyon. There is a lot of industry in Deer Park so the taxes will probably be lower than the other two areas.

all of Lindenhurst is in Suffolk. Copaigue is Suffolk too. but you are right - parts of Lindenhurst go to Copaigue schools - id rather be in Liindy than Copaige SD.

Sorry, I was wrongChat Icon I know where it is now. My sister's first house was on the opposite side of Montauk Hwy by Bergin Point. That's a good location and perfect for the LIRR.

Actually, if you catch an express train you can get to Penn in about 45 minutes.

As for the homes...

1st WB - nice area, convenient for shopping

2nd WB - on a main road

1st Lindy - I'm not a fan of that area

2nd Lindy - nice family neighborhood, looks like it needs to be gutted, have to add village taxes to the taxes listed

DP - I am not a fan of that area either

I grew up in WB. I know a lot of people who teach in the district, the schools are good. Also, a lot of young couples are buying houses in that area. It's a great town.
