nah, not really. I guess b/c my DH is from LI and I got married on LI. I'm pretty familiar with his area and other parts of nassau.

I am not a Long Island girl, for that matter I dont even know how the heck to get out there on my own w/out getting lost  BUT outside of pepole talking about real estate on LI and diff. restaurants or places to hang out, I dont feel left out on the boards really 
If I get really confused I just ask DH, he is the LI boy in this duo 
But overall I just kind of ignore the 'local' talk since there is nothing I can relate to and/or contribute

I don't feel left out when people talk about restaurants I never heard of because I look at those as possibilities to check out when I am bored and want to try something new.
Its a learning experience for me.
My wife says I am officially a "Long Islander" now that we own in Nassau. I tell her I will never be a Long Islander.

I will never become a true Long Islander for the simple reason that I refuse to use a drive-up ATM.
They are all over Long Island. I can't stand them cause the people that use them annoy the crap out of me. There is usually a queue of cars waiting and some people are just sloooooooow.
I will park my car... walk into the bank... get my cash... and leave the parking lot before the first car is done getting their money. LOL
It also helps that my car sits so low to the ground.. i usually can't reach the ATM from the car anyways.

When it comes to certain things-- obviously you can't relate... but, I still find the board helpful for apt/home owning questions and if anyone needs reccos in the city-- I'm all over it.. It was kinda the same on LIW.. but, I lived in LI til I was 22, and both my parents are there, as well as DH's- so I probably have more of a frame of reference.

Hmmmm not really. People are always talking about things I have no idea about (restaurants, different neighborhoods, etc) but thats okay, I like to learn. I actually got a lot of great ideas of places to go and things to do.
My father lives in Massapequa and my mom lives in Coram so I consider myself an honorary LI'er when I visit!
