Anyone ever overcome a dog fear?

When I was 6, I was chased down by a lose doberman pincher. I think that started the fear. Anyone who was once scared, not anymore? I hate that I have this fear, especially since DH is dying for a dog. He wants an American Bulldog, but says he will settle for a chihauhau(sp) at this point.

When my niece was younger she would litteraly shake from head to toe when a dog even was a few steps away from her.
But, she got over it. And when she was around 8 they got a dog. A Burmese Mountain Dog he was HUGE but so loving. And she got over her fear.

I was bit in the face by a black lab/doberman mix when I was about 9 or so (luckily I actually pulled back quick enough that he just scraped the length of my nose and punctured my chin). We had a dog at home so I wasn't afraid of dogs after that, just black dogs terrified me for years.

I guess I just got over it one day.

I sure did! When I was 7 or 8 I was bit on the butt by a dog! It was not a big deal but it still scared the crap out of me for life. I have since been afraid of every dog no matter how little. Even if I see a dog I have to walk on the other side of the street and I would never enter someones house that had a dog.

Well guess who changed all that but Diane (diamondgrlies) dog Murphy! He is medium sized and very rowdy, however I learned to love him and now I always pet peoples dogs and I cant wait to have one of my own!
