Are you needy? poll

Do you need the help of
your husband, your parents, your friends for every thing you do? or every problem you have?

or are you independant ...meaning you can survive on your own without help from others (for the most part)?

i think about this...what if my husband left me? what if my parents were gone?
can i handle it on my own?


ETA - I consider myself independant..my mom always said "what if you husband packs up and leaves you with 3 kids? you need to learn how to function" and that stuck with me.....i dont like calling people for help...even my husband..i try to handle mini crises by myself....

For the most part I am very independent and can handle things on my own very well.. My parents and DH likes the fact that I am but at the same time they dislike it. If my parents and DH would not be be here anymore I really do not know what I would do because I am so attached to them. I think that I would be able to move on after a long time because I know that they would want me to. It would be hard but I know that I would be able to do it.

Sort of going through this right now. I see my grandfather and wonder what the hell will he do when my grandmother is gone? while he worked and took care of yard stuff, he never cooked or cleaned the house. all those little things.

so to answer your question, I always made it my point to not have to depend on anyone. I didn't want to be one of those 75 year old ladies who didn't know where the checkbook was or how much money was in the bank or who to call if something happened or how to change the vacuum bag, etc.

I've always been very independent, even when I was very small. I think I was just wired that way, and I was also reminded, from a very young age, to be able to care for myself financially and otherwise and not rely on a man.

I was also single longer than many (till I was 31) and had to realized that sometimes if I wanted to do stuff (travel, go to movies, go to dreaded singles things) I had to suck it up and do it alone. But that was good for me.

However, I am TERRIBLE at asking for help, to the point where it's a bit detrimental.

I have grown to be independent. Which isn't such a good thing at times. I can take of myself. I hardly ever ask for help.

Living on my own for a long time, I'm very independant. I do get frustrated at times and feel like I need to everything because that's what I'm used to doing, so I can be stubborn with letting someone (DH) help me if I need it. I'm getting better accepting his help if I need it.

I am the complete opposite of needy. It will take a lot for me to ask for help, I'd rather do it on my own. Sometimes I'm too independent for my own good.

Well my parents are gone and my husband left me so I would say I am VERY independent. Before the ex left I thought I was independent but it truly got tested this past year and a half and now I can say I can take care of my self very well!

I am independent.

My father left my mother when I was 7 and my sister was 4. My mother didn't work and she had only a HS diploma. We lived poor for a long time and things were difficult growing up. I learned to be self sufficient.

Plus I have been living on my own since I was 17.

Very independent...to a fault in somes opinions ....but I like it this way...I like to handle everything myself...and because of this I end up being everyone elses rock sometimes, which I do not mind at all becauseI love to be a source of comfort to friends and family in need but then at times I am going through my own stuff that I am trying to handle on my own and feel overwhelmed....I guess thats where the fault part comes in..but its hard to change once you become so independent.

I would say I am independent EXCEPT when it comes to my car. I let DH handle all of that since it is a passion and hobby of his and I know nothing. When I had my muffler fall out on the highway with my old car, I called him right away. I just bought a car and DH did the majority of the research and all the talking at the dealership. Other than that tho, I would say that both DH & I are very independent since we both lived on our own before we were married. However, emotionally, I do rely on DH, my fam, and close friends to get me through the rough patches of life.

Very independent. I think DH would actually like to feel like he is needed more...But I am self-supporting financially and have learned to fix everything myself, etc.

I would be lost if my mother died, but not because I am dependent on her, just because she is my best friend. So I guess I am emotionally dependent on her.

Sometimes I even ask DH for help with little things to make him feel needed. Opening a jar can make him feel like a big man.

I have always been independent but have become more so in the past three years. I always try to handle thing son my own and do things on my own...
