Dominican Republic

Since nobody on the travel boards ever replies to anything.. I thought Id ask here..lol

Anyone been here? I heard Punta Cana was nicer but there are no non stop flights from New York... Puerto Plata has non stop flights.. was thinking about a long weekend, maybe at the Marien hilton..
Any advice from anyone who has been?

I have been to Punta Cana, and yes there are non-stop flights. It is beautiful. We stayed at Melia Caribe, and it was the most beautiful resort. Friends came with us and they also went to the Occidental, and thought it was a little better.
It is so cheap too.

There are direct flights to Punta Cana and it's gorgeous there from what I hear (never been but I was going to get married there).

I've been to Puerto Plata several times and it is also beautiful there (though I hear Punta Cana is nicer) and soooo much fun! I think Punta Cana is more romantic and Puerto Plata is more for partying/fun/vacation. So it depends what you are looking for.

We went to Punta Cana for our HM. It was a direct flight from Kennedy-about 4 hrs. Then an hr bus ride from the airport to the hotel.

We enjoyed it so much and want to go back to the same resort at some point!!

There arent anymore non stop flight out of New York.
I have been on american and delta and a few others. I know there used to be, but there arent anymore.

I have searched again, orbitz, expedia..
No non stop flights.. only out of newark
Its crazy.
They didnt away with non stops to turks and caicos too which I loved going to.
If you know a particular airline besides american or delta that fly to Punta Cana can u tell me?
Maybe its the dates I need that they dont offer it

I don't remember which airline we flew. Try talking to a travel agent-they would know if it's a blackout thing

becuase i am looking to go in August, alot of airlines wont fly non stop.
That non stop flights to the caribbean are " seasonal"
Out of new york in August on American I can only go to Puerto Plata, Aruba ( to long a flight for 3 days) and Puerto Rico..

Ok, so I called back American and read them what you just typed and YES they are non stop on those dates.. but for MY dates which is August 26th through August 30th.. they no longer offer non stop flights..
They said thats when they stop for a few months with non stop flights..
So thank you for checking!! I really did appreciate it..Also was true for Turks and Caicos.. there are no non stop flights for August 26th through August 30th..

FH and I went to Punta Cana and stayed at Secerts may of 04 and with the flight and all amenities I think I paid like 2200...

It was gorgeous...I loved it, and I would def go back..

I have pics if your interested and an excellent agent who might be able to give you a great deal.. (shes a personal friend of mine...) let me know!
