Hospital Question
With all these threads about pre-registering at the hospital, hospital tours and such...
Has anyone wound up delivering at a totally different hospital then what they planned on???
This is my 1st pregnancy and I am hoping to make the 45 minute drive into St. Catherine's in Smithtown. What happens if I don't make it there and wind up at a different hospital with a different doctor??

Re: Hospital Question
If you wind up at a different hospital, they'll just take you & the baby. The staff pediatrician checks out your baby. You're released after a few days and then go to the regular pediatrician you choose.
In all likelihood, you'll get to St. Catherine's. Most first labors are 8-14 hours from start to finish.

Re: Hospital Question
This actually happened to my sister's friend. She lives in CT and works in the city. She had the baby early and was having contractions while with a friend but didn't think anything of them and ended up almost passing out on the train ride home and had to have the baby in a NJ hospital.
She delivered with a staff OB and her DH missed the birth

Re: Hospital Question
I didn't even get a chance to pre-register with St Charles...I had an emergency c-section at 35 weeks at Stony Brook. Not a problem (especially since I came in an ambluence)....when I got there I told them I called the Dr..Dh answered any questions and an hour and a half later Hayley was born.
