Re: red raspberry leaf tea
Actually, this is a wonderful tea to drink towards the end of your pregnancy (about 4 weeks before your due date). This tea strengthens the uterus which will make contractions stronger once labor begins, overall it helps to facilitate a quicker birth. I worked w/ a midwife who highly recommended drinking it.

Exactly. Some people think it helps induce labot. It does not. It strengthens the uterus. I drank it when i remember to make it toward the end.

you can get it at Stop and Shop in the health food aisles...you are supposed to drink 2 cups a day in your second trimester and three cups a day in your third...my sister had 2 quick labors and she really think this is why...make sure it is decaf

Re: red raspberry leaf tea
I drank it! I was desperate to go into labor , it' supposed to contract the uterus ...didn't work for me, unless it takes a week to work it's mojo.
Red Raspberry (Rubus Idaeus) is known for its soothing properties that may be helpful for after birth pains, bowel disorders, child birth, colds, diarrhea, digestive problems, female complaints, fever, flu, heart disease, lactation, menstrual irregularities, miscarriage, morning sickness, and nausea during pregnancy.

Re: red raspberry leaf tea
OK, I asked my RE about this today because I take the herbs and occasionally the tea, and she said to absolutly NOT drink it during pregnancy until the very end. YEs it does strengthen the uterus but it does so by toning it which in essense is by contracting it...and can lead to pre term labor or an M/C. I dont know, better safe then sorry right? And I dont believe too much of the hype about things, but this is something I would stay away from till the end.

Re: red raspberry leaf tea
I have found that when I drink it the week before my period, my cramps are alleviated somehow. So, since menstrual cramps are just 'minor' labor pains (or so I've heard), I would think that drinking the tea before the end of one's pregnancy, it would help strengthen the uterus, which it is supposed todo. I used to work in a health food store and learned that there are herbs to take and herbs to avoid when pregnant.
This is an interesting link herbs
The herbs to avoid, especially black cohosh and pennyroyal, promote uterine contractions, therefore may lead to spontaneous abortions (miscarriage).
Herbal remedies in general require a lot of investigation. But red raspberry leaf in general is supposed to be safe. But when in doubt, don't to it.
