Round Ligament Pain...

Some questions for your ladies..

Can someone describe what this feels like? How early or approx. how long into the pregnancy do you start feeling this sort of thing?

I am pretty sure I've had this since I hit the 2nd trimester, but I've heard it described to me in SO many different ways - I wonder if I'm just feeling stretching, crampies, or it is actually the round ligament pain. The past few weeks especially it's been BAD. I get this mainly in my VERY lower abdomen and mostly my groin area ... and I'm telling ya, some days it's so bad it can start to freak me out Chat Icon

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow so I'm going to check with her anyhow, but just wanted to know if you ladies are getting this too .. Thanks!

Re: Round Ligament Pain...

I don't know if this is what I had at just shy of 12 weeks, but it felt like I did 5,000 sit ups and I really couldn't stand up straight. It lasted about 1.5 to 2 hours. I haven't gotten it again since.

Re: Round Ligament Pain...

Hmmm.. Steph, that sounds a little different than what I'm getting currently, though I have gotten what you describe too. I honestly don't know, though, if what YOU had is round ligament pain or if this weird stretchy/pully/jabbing stuff that I'm getting is the ligament pain Chat Icon

I'm not all that concerned, and I know the baby is growing a lot at this point (I'm 17 wks and change) but still when I get that pully feeling in my groin area, it's just SO so weird! Usually these pains I have come and go... they last a few minutes, sometimes a 1/2 hour, but then they are gone. I had it BAD this past Sunday, but since then nothing at all

Thanks for replying Chat Icon

Re: Round Ligament Pain...

I think I started getting it at about the mid-20 week point. It got progressively worse, and is so bad now that I can't even walk half a block without being in a LOT of pain Chat Icon
It feels like I've been riding a horse for hours....or like where my femur attaches to the hip socket feels badly bruised.

Re: Round Ligament Pain...

Flee, going by what I found on BabyCenter.com, it sounds like you are getting round ligament pain.

What is round ligament pain?
It's generally a brief, sharp, stabbing pain or a longer-lasting dull ache that women commonly feel in the lower abdomen or groin, starting in the second trimester of pregnancy. You may feel it as a short jabbing sensation if you suddenly change position, such as when you're getting up from a bed or chair or when you cough, roll over in bed, or get out of the bathtub. Or you may feel it as a dull ache after a particularly active day, say when you've been walking a lot or doing some other physical activity.

It always felt like to me, a charly horse in my abdomen. If that makes sense. Flee, you're at that point where you'd be feeling round ligament pains. They s-ck, but it's nice to know that bean is growing!Chat Icon

Ahh this is what I have to look forward to then.. yikes!

That is exactly how I felt this weekend though.. like I'd been riding a horse all day long.. then it subsided...

Thanks for the input!

Re: Round Ligament Pain...

mine were sharp sudden pains that didn't last very long. I'd get them from changing positions quickly.

Re: Round Ligament Pain...

For me I would get quick sharp pains that didn't last long and when I changed positions too fast or something. I was also having for a few weeks (not lately... knock on wood), a strong pain/ache in my groin area that would extend into my pubic bone area I guess... basically down very low, but usually when I would walk around. It was not fun. It felt like my bones hurt. Chat Icon

What you're feeling is normal though, don't worry! Chat Icon

Thank you all SO much for your replies! Chat Icon

I saw my OB this morning and she pretty much said that what I'm feeling is variations of stretching and round ligament pain... it's quite normal at this point, and the baby is having a growth spurt, so everything is really stretching out right now...

I'm just starting my 2nd tri, but I feel like I got this all through my first. If I would cough or get up too quickly I would getting shooting pains down there that made me bend over and would go away quickly.Chat Icon Hmm, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to get this until the second tri.

Re: Round Ligament Pain...

there were 2 days late in my 1st trimester where i felt AF like crampiness and pain in general where i thought something might be wrong. i had no bleeding, so i let it be. after 2 days it just disappeared...

my dr. stated that could have been just part of normal stretching.
