Stage 1-Jars or cook your own.

Hi,

I Am new to this solids stuff so bear with me..........

For Stage 1 foods -veg and fruit...do you prepare your own or give out of a jar.

I think I want to prepare my own as I want to know what DD is going to be eating but wonder if I am making more work for myself....do you think there is a huge diff between organic food you prepare yourself and organic food you buy in jars?

I guess I dont eat a lot of pre packaged stuff myself so that is why I feel like I should prepare DD's food for her.

Any thoughts?

I did a combo.....I made ALOT of stage 1 single variety foods and it was SO easy.

If you have a rice cooker with a steamer tray....AWESOME. You can also buy a steamer basket in the store which you use with a regular stovetop pot.

Sweet potatoes, butternut squash, golden delicious apples (least amount of acid), pears, string beans.

Bananas and mango can be smushed up raw.

peas and carrots are tough to get the consistency really smooth....DD liked texture early on. String beans can be tough too. Some foods you need to add the water you steamed with to puree it to get it smooth....again, I did not because DD like the thick texture.

I do a lot of my own food, but wind up feeding him a mix of jarred and my own. For stage 1, I would suggest that you make your own, its really realy easy...I use a braun hand blender, which makes the whole process really simple. I spent an afernoon making lots of purees and froze them, and I am still using them.

We made:
Pears
Figs
Carrots
Potato & Pea mix (which mixes brilliantly with everything)
Tomato and Zucchini
Mango
Butternut Squash
And lots more!

What was nice about making your own stage 1, is that you can introduce lumps really gradually and move on to Stage2
