What would cause someone to have a black eye?

Other then "walking into the corner of the door"
What would cause a person to have a black eye?
There is this woman that i work with and like once a month she has a black eye? Is there something other then getting hit that can cause this?

sadly she might be getting physically abused especially if it's that often.

wow, if it's a repetitive thing then I would say she is getting hit by her SO. ARe you close to her? I would really ask her if she is ok.

I would say:

I don't want to intrude but I am concerened about your bruises around your eye. Is everything ok or is there anything I can do.

I know I had some patients who were undergoing menopause and the meds they were on would give them a bruising color under an eye or 2. Is she an older woman?

I hit my eye almost every time I do laundry on the washing machine (the detergent is on the side of the machine, so I have to bend down). My mom once seriously asked me if DH hit me, but I really am just that clumsy.

ETA: My DH has sinus issues from having a broken nose and he gets very black under his eyes

Does she have kids? You wouldn't belive how easily I get scratched and bruised just playing with Sarah, and she's only 1 year old.

I am not close with her at all. She tend to keep to herself and is the type of woman that doesn't like to be disturbed.

I would say that she is in her 50s. I know that she has sinus problems, which is why I don't want to jump to conclusion.

I'm not sure there are too many things that would cause this besides physical abuse. Especially so frequently.

I gave myself a black eye and a real doosey too--a candle dropped onto my cheek.

Does she ever have other bruises you can see? I know anemics get random bruises, so it could be something like that.

It could be related to her sinus problems, I think. The circles under my eyes look worse when I have sinus headaches.

It is probably something medical, if it was abuse, she would propably have other injuries & maybe miss work a lot, but I guess you never really know.


Or maybe she takes karate & is just really bad at it?
( seriously, I had a male professor that had that problem )

If she has a young child, they can do it in a heartbeat. Although I haven't had a black eye I know of several moms that got them. I've gotten some pretty nasty bumps (actually swelled).

It's because they're completely unpredictable which way they move their head, etc.

I also know someone who would get horrible migraines accompanied by what looked like black eyes. She wound up having a brain tumor removed and it resolved it.

So i just spoke with one of my co-workers and he told he that they didn't know what it was. He said that she is a big drinker and sometimes she comes out of her office all f*ed up. He said that a while back someone had asked her and she said that she fell. They think maybe her and her BF get drunk and then fight.

I feel really bad but I dont think that i could ever approach her. She is just not a very friendly woman and i would feel very arkward.

sometimes when my sinuses act up my eyes get really puffy, and because I'm pale, if I don't wear concealer under my eyes, it almost looks like a bruise, because the skin is translucent......

My mom had really fair, thin skin and would bruise from teh slightest thing!

I once got a back eye because I tripped over my dog and didnt have time to put my hands down so my head hit the floor and my eye happened to hit teh metal peice the connects the carpet to other flooring! I felt so silly!

But I would have to say if it was that often I am not sure if there's many other reasons besides the obvious.
